mascot that gets in the cage and intimidates the opponent

You seriously believe that a tiger riding around the field in a cage intimidates the opponent? Do you also believe that if he escaped, he'd bypass LSU fans and attack only the opponents?

Won't come to any more games until the offense makes it worth the time.... Too frustrating even for our awesome mascot

Former Alabama defensive end Marcell Dareus was terrified of it when he made the trip to Death Valley in 2010.

“That thing, that thing scared the life out of me,” he said at the time.

A big performance against the Tigers would surely boost Manziel's chances of winning a second consecutive Heisman Trophy, but he'll have to conquer one of the game's great home-field advantages. For opponents, perhaps there is no better symbol of the intimidation factor at LSU than the school's live tiger mascot, Mike.

I know a guy who played for Bama in the 80's. He told me that Mike was parked on side of the tunnel where the opposing team ran out. He said that the Bama players would tease Mike to get a reaction out of him. He said that the tiger would growl at them and they would tease him even more. He said that they had to stop when a guy in LSU gear and a police deputy told them to leave the tiger alone. He told me that they were never afraid of Mike and he thought it was pretty cool how Mike was paraded around the stadium with the LSU cheerleaders on top of the cage. He also liked when the cheerleaders would make Mike roar in a microphone in front of the student section.

They don't fear of being eaten alive but it's got to be a little intimidating.

Hell, the Huskies practiced with a live tiger to prepare for their trip to LSU. That's gotta tell you something.

They should just leave him in the habitat on gamedays and add a couple of more tigers while they are at it. We could/should be breeding a new line of tigers for the future. They could probably put kittens on leashes and bring them out on the field for the first year or so. I'm guessing there is enough room for more than one. It's as big as most exhibits at the zoo. Plus the tiger has to be lonely. I'm glad they take good care of him, but I think they go way over board..

I love how all of our fans know how Mike should be cared for and handled better than our own vet school who eat, sleep, and breathe this stuff.

Hold off on feeding him for a few days and then put some prime rib in the trailer cage...

Tells me they spent money on something dumb. The people in the picture don't look anymore afraid than anyone else who sees a tiger in a cage at the zoo. Are you afraid of a caged tiger?

"More than 92,000 rabid LSU fans turn out for games in Baton Rouge, La., earning that building the nickname "Death Valley." Part of the intimidation is a live tiger mascot named Mike who is placed near the visiting team's entrance. The tradition dates back to 1936."

Ahhhh, the good old days.

That's the intimidation and all the intimidation we need. Having Mike there live is cool, but that's not what intimidates other teams.

Every stadium has a bunch of fans yelling at games. We need Mike to add to the intimidation.
