Man... kind of a low class move of him to discuss the job and not give Mainieri any heads up and then break a deal on poaching recruits. LINK

"I was disappointed when that happened," Mainieri said Wednesday before embarking on the five-hour bus ride to Starkville. "I thought Andy and I had an agreement when he left not to poach players we had recruited."

If Cannizaro were trying to poach players, do you really think he would have only gotten one of them?

He didn't poach the kid. The kid built a relationship with Canny, not with LSU. It happens in recruiting all the time. Not a huge deal. Paul is being a little petty over one guy that was only coming to LSU because of Cannizaro.

not really. Guy was offered a great job and there isn't a coach anywhere that wouldn't keep recruiting kids once he left for another school

You know damn well that at least 10% of the reason Cohen went after Cannizaro was to piss off Paul.

Except for Cannizaro. He didn't continue recruiting the kid. The kid and his parents made the decision.

“I was happy for Andy. I was like, ‘Wow, John, you’re taking a chance on a guy with only two years of coaching experience,’” Mainieri said recalling the phone conversation. “He was like, ‘Yeah, but I’ve heard you speak so fondly about him and say so many things, it really has made an impression on me.’

“I said, ‘Well, have you even talked to Andy? How do you know he’s the guy you want?’ He said they had had some conversations. Well, I didn’t know he had had some conversations with Andy. I was a little bit taken aback by that.”

And this is the part that people said wasn't true...

These unwritten "don't poach my player" agreements and rules are so retarded.

Cohen and Cannizaro both say a phone conversation took place between the two concerning a potential opening at State before Stricklin landed the job at Florida on Sept. 26, about five weeks before Cohen contacted Mainieri.

“All he said was," Cannizaro started, "‘Listen, there’s a chance that Scott Stricklin is going to get the job at Florida. If he gets the job, I’m going to have interest in becoming the athletic director at Mississippi State. If all this comes to fruition, would you have interest in talking about becoming the next baseball coach at Mississippi State?’

No, I said the only place I'd heard that Cohen had talked to Cannizaro about the job prior to calling Mainieri was on the Rant.

That was true, until this article by Dellenger.

I don't disagree, but Canny was honoring it. One kid just decided to change his mind.

And per an article from around the time it happened, he decommited from LSU the day after Canny left. He signed with State about a week after that.

I'd take CAC over CPM any day and twice on Sunday.

But I hope we kick his teams arse this weekend.

That required you to believe that Paul told Andy that he was hired by State like Andy said. With all due respect, that was always asinine. Independent thought of that timeline should have led you to a different conclusion. Second you on Cohen being an arse, though.

Fair enough. I'll leave it alone.

In an interview with The Advocate on Tuesday, Cohen praised Mainieri for being “extremely supportive” and “first class” in the process of hiring Cannizaro
i.e., keeping his mouth shut and avoiding conflict. Typical Mainieri

The information I had was that Andy had done a full interview prior to 10/7. Cohen's move to AD was announced on 10/12. An article was released "prematurely" on 11/3 prior to anything official. That was the day PM got the call and everything was "done" in 30 minutes.
