Rooney's team was horrible this year and he was likely to be fired after next season barring a huge turnaround. Bailed out before getting axed basically.

Top 25 makes makes them relevant? You are a freaking a-hole. Kids want to go to Vandy and TCU. Tulane is little league compared to those schools. As far as the Bertman thing, he could have stayed at Miami and did the same thing he did here. Coach Frasier retired shortly thereafter. Plus, Broadhead paid Bert almost as much as Arnsparger. Hey Red, go back to sleep.

I hope he stays great. If not good luck to him.

Ron Frasier retired in 1992, eight years after Skip was hired by LSU.

Yes-- it appears Andrew Checketts of UCSB is on the Tulane list for HC. Hard to pass on a guy that just took his team to OMAHA.

There are pros and cons to both Checketts and Cannizaro.

Cannizaro obviously isnt a seasoned HC but he is a guy that would stick around for a LONG time being an alum and lifelong fan. He also is a great recruiter and motivator.

Checketts would be a "safer" pick as a head coach but i'd assume that just like Pierce, he would be gone the second a bigger, better job offered him.

it comes down to do you want to gamble now on a guy that could turn out to be a superstar and hold down the HC job for 30 years or pick a guy that will keep the program going in the right direction but will likely be gone in about 5 years when he gets a better offer.

personally, I'd choose Checketts for 2 reasons:

1) he is proven and will likely step in without any hiccups.

2) when he leaves, its likely that Cannizarro will be more seasoned as a coach and better prepared to run the program.

AND if Checketts decides to stick around and is winning, you really dont have a problem there either.

I'd imagine Cannizaro would be a little upset if he is passed over at Tulane.

He's qualified for that job...has recommendations from many within that program including Rick Jones. It's his Alma Mater and he did big things there. If they pass on him, I don't know how he doesn't take it a bit personal.

I like AC & hope he gets a HC job when he is ready, be it this coming yr or down the road. But while I have nothing negative to say about him, I do feel that a big reason that he's "a great recruiter" is because of the letters LSU written across his chest.
