Wut

I meant in the games where Mett was playing like a lost child. We did this all through JJ and Lee era and it worked out pretty good. In a three game stretch in 2012 (UF, USCe, TAMU) he was completing under 48% of his passes with 1 TD and 2 ints. Rivers should have got a shot to play. As a matter of fact, that was part of a 5 game stretch where he was completing less than 58% of his passes with 2 of his three TDS coming against Towson.

During the course of the season? Hell no. Did you see Rivers out there when Mett was playing horrible?

So, regardless of how capable the backup is we should just throw him out there?

Yes when somebody comes in as an EE passing up guys 2 and 3 years in college, getting high praise from the HC, OC/QB coach, and shining over the starter who had the advantage, you're damn right I'm invested. Go read the thread from last year's Spring game, just about everybody was saying the same thing.

n the world of the Rant, "given a chance" means giving the player an opportunity to start even though he hasn't earned it on the practice field.

I mean when somebody is doing bad for multiple games, let the other guy come in and throw. Coaches yank QBs all the time, nothing wrong with giving the another guy a shot. Definitely not saying start, but in game substitution couldn't have hurt Mett, a 4th year junior.

I hope CLM gives Rettig a close look. Otherwise, he may be making a big mistake going forward ...

Nah, he's on the roster, but he's going to completely ignore him.

I don't have to read the thread, I was at the spring game. Jennings did a nice job given the situation, but in no way did he "outshine" Mettenberger in that game.

no, Spurrier yanks QB's all the time, most other coaches don't.

My guess is that at this point it is as about as wide open a competition as it can be because at this point no one has proven to be head and shoulders above the rest. The starter will be who they think has the best shot to win NOW, especially with a tough D1 team in Wisconsin as our 1st game. I do think they will give reps to another QB though, if they think they have more talent and can develop them during the season.

So the starting QB will be . . . I have no freaking idea.

Indiana yanked their pocket passer and played the dual threat multiple times last year. They had over 3600 passing yards, 36 passing TDs, 13 ints, 400+ rushing yards and another 5 TDs between them.

Last year Sean Mannion and the other guy played off and on at Oregon St. At Texas Tech Mayfield and Webb rotated, at TCU Pachall and the other guy rotated, Smith and Whitlow rotated at Kentucky, MSU with Dak and Russell, Mornhinweg and Murphy at UF, Clint and Shelf at Okie lite, and many more.

You won't win any arguments using Indiana, Oregon State, TTU, TCU, Kentucky, State and Florida as examples.

Why not? They all play for either the BIG 12, PAC 12, B1G, or SEC. Our pass offense has pretty much sucked between 2008-2012. Miles sometimes switched Lee and JJ for the hell of it, and we went 11-2 and 13-1 in back to back years on that.

Our defense, special teams and running game had nothing to do with that. True.

Not sold on his arm strength just yet.

Jennings released the ball at the LSU 42 and the LSU WR caught it on the run at the Hog 10. That's almost a 50 yd toss that appeared to be made without any special effort. I don't think "arm strength" is a valid concern with Jennings.

But it's way more fun to just say Jennings sucks without giving any reasoning or facts than to wait til the fall to see what happens.

So honestly you can't comprehend anything can you? In 2011, we lose to Bama in the reg season without JJ getting swapped in. We lose to UF in 2010 if Lee isn't put in. Lee being basically starter B in 2010 gets us the perfect pass when JJ was knocked out against Bama in 2010. The 1a, 1b we did got us through a rough patch of QBing.

You aren't going to win on nothing but defense and special teams (ask UF)

My whole argument had to do with you saying Rivers "didn't get a shot" because we didn't pull Mett for him in 2012, yet you have absolutely no clue if Rivers was even vaguely ready or if we would have completely shat his pants, JLee style (or worse). Essentially, you believe that no matter how good or bad the backup is, if the starter is struggling, pull him and throw someone else out there. Am I far off there?

He had a shot. It was in practice.
