Australian Here. First of all it is so hot. 95 degrees is a normal temperature. To wear all that gear for 3+ hours is difficult. Second of all, there isn’t much exposure. They tried to have CAL VS Hawaii and Stanford VS Rice but the games weren’t competitive and no one knows who the players are. There are plenty of people that could tell you who Mahomes is or OBJ. You can watch PAC12 games or you can find YouTube Links or listen to the radio for college games. Another problem is that NFL Games are on Monday’s. To watch a game before work you have to watch it at 5AM and you can see the Ravens crush the Browns Yay! SNF games are at 12PM.

Another thing is that many Australians don’t like Americans and to actually teach kids the rules of the game that’s nearly the whole entire gym lesson without even starting plays.

There's still a shitload of decisions to make.

Europe is an amalgamation of disinterested globalist. The closest they come to any allegiance is late dinner, a libation, and a smoke, and possible European football for a sometimes diversion.

3 It's American. We have a reputation around the world as being boorish idiots, this doesn't make people want to go out of their way to learn our culture. England is the one exception to this (as they are boorish idiots as well), and not surprisingly American Football is most popular there of all places outside of North America. Even there a lot of people complain that it's too complicated, too much stop start, and don't see why the players need "all that armor"

Yep our entire country is built on a principle of violence.

There is more American football in Europe than most are aware of. More than 20 leagues are active. The level of play varies greatly, but a lot of teams. Most would be considered semi-pro in the US. Most leagues limit the number of American players that can participate, but there are a lot of US coaches in Europe. The European players are really hungry for knowledge and very coachable.

After graduation, my little guy did a season as OC for an Austrian team with his best friend as DC. They paid the airfare, housing, insurance, a rail pass & a stipend. A great three & a half months for them. Still communicates with a lot & many come to visit in the US.

Soccer is orders of magnitude more tactically complex than football is.

More angles, much longer games, no real playbook except maybe on free kicks, formations change on the fly with no pause, and all 11 players have to be on the same page through all of it.

The field is larger than a football field, so the 10 field players have more space they have to defend and cover individually.

All of that going on, plus the crowd noise screwing with communication abilities for visiting teams (home and away match vs each team for fairness) means that both in a single match as well as over the course of a season soccer is way more complicated than football.

Football is WAY more brutal obviously, but not anywhere near as tactically complicated. Football relies a lot more on individual skill.

There are few other sports that combine the necessary athletic skills that you see in American football. Height, size, weight, strength, speed, quickness, agility, precision, brains, guts, nuts, courage, fear, strategy, cleverness, trickery, etc, etc. I have always been baffled that the concept hasn’t caught on around the world; if for no other reason than to simply compete against America at it’s own game. Football is like a game of Chess. What other countries top sports leagues championship games are shown live around the world for decades? I suspect the #1 reason is costs to play is prohibitive for the organizations that would need to sponsor it.

The current state of the NFL is soft AF compared to the old NFL. It’s certainly softer than rugby right now.
surely you’re kidding. The players today are much bigger and faster. Yes, there are rules to protect the players, but that’s because we have more knowledge today than 30 years ago.

That’s interesting. Pro rugby players call us pussies for wearing pads and helmets.
Until they suit up and play some organized football. Then they don't say that anymore.

American football requires far more wealth than most countries can spare. Equipment, injuries, weight rooms, etc. Soccer requires...a ball and a field. Far easier to spread. Same with rugby, to a lesser degree.

Also, America is almost unique in its wildly varying array of body types. Herman Johnson and Trindon Holliday, for example. The only other countries that could adequately fill the positions would be the UK and maybe France. Sure, Japan could have a football team. But the Japanese national football team would get beat by Vandy every time.

Maybe. But I always wanted to see some of the more athletic Sumo wrestlers take a shot at interior line - O or D

RIP Frankfurt Galaxy. Awesome fans. They deserve better.

At the end of NFL Europa, there were 4 German teams: Rhein Fire, Frankfurt Galaxy, Berlin Thunder, and Cologne Centurions.

Currently, there is a league in Germany. 16 teams. The sport still lives on over there...

You should to head to England one day and get a ticket to a game in Leeds. Or better yet, Millwall. It's hard to describe the energy but for 90min it feels like a bar fight is about to break out. Barcelona, Rome, pretty much any match in Poland or the Czech Republic. Not sure I'd characterize any these fans as disinterested.

Do you have any examples or did you just pull it out of your arse? I’ve been to a few rugby matches in Europe and it is a really rough game. A lot of the guys playing are as big and as athletic as NFL TEs and they are fearless.

I’m not advocating for scores of 15-13, but average scores should be 6-5 or so.

100% agree with that. 1-0 and 2-1 games just isn't going to cut in in America. A simple way to increase scoring, that wouldn't change the nature of the game, would be to simply increase the size of the goals. Add another foot to the height of the goal posts and increase the width by 2 or 3 feet. Or really, just increase the size to whatever size it needs to be to make average game scores be more like you say, in the 6-5 goals per team per game average.

Also the penalty kick rule aggravates the frick out of me. They go back and forth for most the game and then some dumbass penalty gives a team an easy shot at the goal resulting in the win. Make actual goals worth more, say 3 points each, and penalty goals worth 1 point.
