I agree with all that

But in your heart of hearts, in your soul, do you think we lose tonight if Poche starts, after what you witnessed?

I know how you felt before first pitch, and I made it known how I felt.

Even if you pitch Poche today you have to throw the bullpen tomorrow. I would much rather throw Poche with an extra days rest against their bullpen.

That sucks, but that's what happens when you get in the loser's bracket.

this thread was made because that didn't have to happen

we don't get a cookie for losing 4-3. it's the same result as 15-1 would have been

No, I don't think FL gets 3 runs off Poche tonight.

We walked 3 on in a row and gave up their best hit on a bad jump by our CF w our second to last BP option pitching

Did the right thing. Win or lose

Nobody ever said we would win game 1.

Said this was the best way to go. Whether we win or lose. It's the right play considering everyone's health.

Poche has the same chance to win tomorrow as he would have had today. If he wins he wins. If he loses he loses.

Exactly.

You have to pitch the pen one game regardless. They did what was asked tonight. Id rather try to steal one tonight and have our top 2 on deck for games 2 and 3 with an extra day of rest. Almost pulled it off. And if Mainieri had stuck to his plan, they would have.

If you pitches Poche tonight you ran the risk of Poche losing and then Lange would not have pitched at all.

No the argument is that you have to win 2. Throwing Poche on 4 days rest against one of the best pitchers in America would be a bad move. On short rest, you may get 5 or 6 good innings out of him. That's 2 innings more than what Reynolds gave you. And let's say you lose this game anyway. Then tomorrow you throw...who? Lange on 3 days rest? Advantage Florida, again. Even if you win, you still probably throw the guys you threw today.

This was the best move and even if (God forbid) they lose tomorrow, it was still the right move. But they won't lose tomorrow.

How many days rest will Lange have?

The point is that you can't pitch Lange until Wednesday at the earliest. So, even if Poche started tonight we would still have to throw Wholestaff tomorrow. Poche would not be as effective on short rest and you would be pitching him against Singer. It's pretty simple really.

Come tell me we lose this game if Poche starts on the same rest you want Lange to have on Wed.

now you run the risk of losing tomorrow and not having Lange throw at all

Lange pitching tomorrow runs the risk of an amazing talent never pitching again. PM doesn't do that and I respect him for it. You don't risk that arm and future. If you think that way, Poche' would have pitched tonight. BAD IDEA

10 out of 14 teams that win Game 1 win the series.

You don't think the team has way more pressure on every phase of the game tmrw night now?

I personally think Poche would pitch a better Game 1 knowing we can't lose out than what he faces tmrw night.

I said all this yesterday.

An argument can be made that PM didn't utilize pitchers tonight as well as he could (e.g. Left Reynolds in too long or base running outs) but I I think starting pitching wise PM absolutely put this team in the best position to beat a team with superior pitching (without your #3 starter due to injury) AND having to come out of the losers bracket.

If Poche shits the bed and can't get em to Wed then it didn't matter what day he pitched imo.

It was about giving Poche his best match up to get to Lange.

Not starting Poche was the right decision. I think we lose with him on the mound. You just watched a FL pitcher strike out 12. You give Poche and Hess that extra rest. Now all of a sudden we have both aces on the mound. Anything can happen it's baseball. We just took out their number two. With odds of even seeing Fiedo slim. We just beat an Oregon State team with our backs against the wall. Why would we lose faith now.

Let's do this. GEAUX TIGERS.

You don't get it

Lange pitching WEDNESDAY is the same rest that Poche would have had TODAY

Read that again

Also, I wasn't in the dugout, but for those blaming Mainieri for leaving in Reynolds too long, it looked like he wanted to pull him and Dunn talked him into letting him face one more batter. You weren't going to pull him for walking the first one after facing the minimum, but it looked like Paul had the hook ready when he walked that second batter. Still on him for letting Dunn talk him into sticking with Reynolds if that is what happened, but I think he did want to pull him. Just an observation.
