From Tigervision broadcast. Not sure why I haven't posted this here until now. I was at the game with my dad. My dad was super cool. He let me bring oranges because we were on the very botton row of the SE corner upper deck. I launched them into the Seminole players as they were leaving the field at halftime. Good times. But I remember at the end of the game just being in awe of the scene across the stadium. Hell of a night.

So anyway, there are some hilarious moments on this video. The footage is pretty grainy. I recorded it straight to my phone from the TV because this was on an old VHS tape. You can still clearly see the classic moments though.

First really unique thing is that the hot camera (if that's the correct terminology) as the seconds counted down was not the one showing the players on the field. It was the one on ground level showing the student section.

Here is a rundown of the classic moments you will see:

-- At the :14 mark you will see a cop pointing up into the stands. At that very moment someone throws a drink and hits him square in the face. The camera cuts away just as he is starting to go into the stands.
-- At the 1:22 mark is when the game clock hits zero and the students unload oranges and start to rush the field. The camera is right in front of one dude in a green shirt who lets fly with three oranges. The moment the third one leaves his hand he gets pelted hard with an orange on his right shoulder. I rewound the tape at this point to show his face in slow motion. The grimace of pain is priceless.
-- I'm sure some of you remember when general public fans used to sit at field level right below the student section. Doesn't seem too smart in hindsight. Well, immediately after the green shirt dude bolts the scene you can see in the lower right corner of the screen two old ladies cowering in their seats as the students start to pour over the wall. I can only imagine those poor ladies were petrified.

Those are the best moments but a couple more somewhat humorous ones follow:

-- At 2:38 this funny hippie looking dude comes into the picture just kind of following Stovall around waving his arms. Then during the interview he's behind him still waving his arms when the state trooper to Stovall's right turns and chases him away at the 3:00 mark. The state trooper did not look the slightest bit amused by any of the chaos. I'm sure he wanted to get the hell out of dodge. He also gave another kid, who was just jumping up and down and celebrating, a shove at the 3:12 mark.
-- The field level view of the fans starting at 3:50 for about ten seconds is pretty awesome. Oranges just flying through the air
-- I remember in the couple of days after the game hearing of student complaints of police brutality on the field. You can see towards the end of the video that the cops were absolutely not playing around and were handling them pretty roughly. At the 4:31 mark you can see the students starting to be yanked off of the goal posts and clearly being yanked down with force. They came down pretty hard. Then from the 4:50 mark to the end you can pretty clearly see students on the field behind the endzone being thrown around like ragdolls. I guess the cops were told to save the goal posts and clear the field and they clearly had no other ideas how to handle this type of situation.

Anyway... Hope y'all enjoy.

Nor would it be allowed to be.

Too bad LSU couldn't have won an NC back in the 80's. I was at this game and it was CRAZY.

TS was wild back in those late 80's games.

Yeah man it was pretty chaotic. Looked like crazy fun though. Just a few years before my time as a student.

I was thinking the same thing. You will never get that type of atmosphere back on a regular basis. I know that night was special but some of my favorite games back then were just average opponents where the crowd was just in "a mood".

Well this was '82 but yeah you're right. The highlight of my time in the student section was the Earthquake Game in '88.

I remember in 1993 we were debating whether to bring spark plugs to throw on the field if we defeated Arkansas to make the Carquest Bowl. Sadly, Arkansas shite kicked us and the bowl remained elusive.

didn't we lose the week before this game to Miss St and then the week after to Tulane?

Yep, oddly enough. Undefeated with one tie going into Starkville. Damn John Bond and Belaire kicker for the Bulldogs. Dana something.

Ah, great memories! I was at this game, it was my freshman year at LSU. I might have been in that video as I was about 10 rows up in the student section. I remember getting pelted with oranges thrown from above and leaving the stadium with pulp in my hair.

Good times!

Thanks for the video - the two most "fun" games I've been to in Tiger Stadium were that FSU game and the 1971 Notre Dame game.

10 rows up eh? I guess it wasn't you who threw the drink in the cop's face then? Looked like it came from about the third row. Somebody had some serious balls of brass.

Nah, that wasn't me. I was cowering from the raining oranges. Plus, any drinks that I had were spiked from the flask that I brought into the stadium, so I wouldn't have wasted it on a cop. You could bring in alcohol in those days!

That green shirt guy looked like Dwight Schrute at first glance
Good stuff. You should get a capture card and have this saved digitally on an external hard drive. That's what we did with all of our old home videos.
Definitely time consuming, but well worth it. You'll never lose your priceless videos
