I was there, in the student section. The field was also covered with fog. Great game.

Our fanbase has declined so dramatically over the last decade; a bunch of effete, indifferent sloths who can't be troubled to stand or stay until the end of games.

Don't want to hijack the thread but my biggest complaint with Alleva is I don't think he has any real clue on what TS is all about. It's not about pom-poms and piped-in music. It's about nights and noise! Rather than cultivating TS's real uniqueness, he is dismantling it.

Good stuff there.

Didn't they pelt the field with oranges again the following week?

Not a lot of purple and gold in the stands, times have certainly changed.

I did see one fan wearing a jersey , maybe a dad of a player ??

I was there then too. Actually sat behind the Tulane bench for that one. And yes, nothing like the week before but there were some thrown. One of my crappy memories of that night was a Tulane player taking a huge celebratory bite out of one of the oranges that was on the ground behind the bench late in the game when the final outcome was no longer on doubt.

Another crappy memory is a Tulane player just kinda dancing around with his back to the fans but his middle finger extended high and aimed at us. Deno Jeter. No idea why I remember his name. It just stuck with me through the years.

You're right. I was a sophomore that year and we never wore colors to the games… it just wasn't a thing then. Probably because licensing wasn't big back then; the Union bookstore was one of the few places that sold LSU apparel and it was a limited selection.

As an aside, one of the greatest pictures I've seen from those days in the student section was on the front page of The Daily Reveille. One of the guys in my frat wore a hollowed out pumpkin on his head for the Ole Miss game on halloween night in 1981 and was photographed bending over to kiss his date's very attractive breasts!

fog was absolutely epic

I was 10 rows from the very top of upper west. when the fog started rolling in it seemed to "settle" over the field seeing it from above; we couldn't see anything from the east side!!
We could barely see the field, but kept seeing streaks of orange thru the fog!
I was frickin awesome!
And the players and people running on the field looked like ants.

I guess it wasn't you who threw the drink in the cop's face then? Looked like it came from about the third row. Somebody had some serious balls of brass.
Real men and women in the LSU student section back then.

Now it's entitled, self-centered and self-absorbed spoiled rotten brats..............

Great post. It was my sophomore year and what a crazy night in TS. Seems like back in those days we had less police/sheriff in the stands. Fights were very common in the stands and people would stop watching the game to watch a slugfest. I am sure this added to the craziness.

Ditto on the wearing of purple and gold from a previous poster in this thread. You just couldn't really find much. Maybe a tshirt or hat but due to the limited selection people didn't wear it.

Another magical night in the greatest stadium on earth.

My first season in TS. I had just moved here in spring of 82 from KY. Been watching and attending LSU football ever since. Buddy of mine where I worked got me and another guy a fake LSU ID and we saw every home game for two yrs for free!

At the :14 mark you will see a cop pointing up into the stands. At that very moment someone throws a drink and hits him square in the face. The camera cuts away just as he is starting to go into the stands.

This made me lol

My 3 memories from that game. My idiot friend who thought they said fruit and brought apples instead of oramges. We threw them anyway....the fog was hirrible and the upper deck was obscured, and shite was raining down out of the clouds, and then walking to class you could smell oranges outside the stadium for days and days...
This is when Tiger Stadium was absurdly fun....
