It will be interesting to see how this plays out when there are an additional 2 teams that have to be accounted for......I'm sure the SEC will have to re-do the TV contract to fit these two schools in, perhaps then a deal can be struck that better accomodates what the schools want.

my phone still runs circles around the apple phones. and it is a year and a half old.

Once you're team has played a 2:30 slot on CBS, the school should then have the option to veto any secondary calls by CBS if it deems fit, causing ESPN to pick up the game for the evening time slots.
Brilliant, lets move our games from network to cable.

Because the ESPN SEC contract says so. Why is that so hard for people to understand?

Why would the SEC do this? LSU has no leverage here unless we are willing to leave the SEC, which would be beyond fricking retarded. Like most of you.

I understand that saturday nights in death valley are the way LSU football has been enjoyed for decades, but the fact is tv money runs college football as evident by the conference realignment shifts. CBS has it that their main game is the 2:30 slot and if LSU happens to be the big game every week, then it'll have to be a day game. Those of you complaining sound like a bunch of Aggies complaining about losing traditions. I prefer night games for all big college football games myself. Next week A&M will have its 3rd 11am kickoff. 11am blows. So be thankful LSU is doing so well that it doesnt have to worry about kicking off too early or not being on tv at all.

But dammit, we are LSU and our AD should be able to make a phone call and fix this!!! WE are freaking LSU!

Alleva misses the point. The CBS contract is a travesty, and whoever negotiated it for the SEC needs to be reassigned to duties more within his competency: getting coffee for the Athletic Directors, or some such.
With one and probably 2 more teams joining the conference, the SEC should do everything it can to compel a renegotiation of the deal. The new contract should limit the number of times that CBS can compel a team to play at a certain time in its own stadium in order to be on TV to twice a season. With 14 teams in the league, this shouldn't be a hardship. And if a team wants to comply with a CBS request for a 3rd change in time, it's up to the team. Also, the restriction against playing a home game on another network at the same time that CBS is televising a game should be eliminated. Not only would this permit LSU (and any other team) to schedule night games each year, it would also get rid of the asinine 11AM starts. I firmly believe that CBS is sufficiently hungry for content, especially SEC football content, that they would ultimately concede these points without it costing the SEC money.

Did we get voted down 11-1 though?
I think that's the key question. If LSU lobbied among other schools and simply found no support, then fine, we have to live with that. But did we even try to strike a deal with anyone?

Do you have some facts and figures to back this up? Should another contract option have been decided on that made more money? Do you know how the negotiations worked out and any of the details?

I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that a mf'ing REPEAT of CSI pulls a higher ratings draw & ad revenue than a primetime SEC kickoff. especially with a solid afternoon SEC game & post game show lead in
CBS also cannot compete against an espn televised game. That's in the contract too.

Cable/Satellite only serves 70% of the market. Network TV serves 100% of the market. Which network is going to receive more ad revenue and more coverage?

Maybe we can call Oprah and get a prime-time slot on her network. Hell she's from Mississippi. THE SEC ON OPRAH, I like the ring to it. Could you imagine Les jumping up and down on her couch saying he has the want to be in Oprahs book club.
