If he would have had success at LSU he would have ended up at Ohio St.

Thought the world of Charlie Mac, he just couldn't seem to get the Bear off his back. When Rein's announcement was made by Dietzel(?) it was like a rebirth at LSU. Rein was the dominant young football mind in collegiate football...hate to even reference it, but sort of like a kindred Saban. I always felt his family had been slighted by not paying a greater tribute...2014 could have been done with more class, but I'm an old timer.
Stovall having to come in under those circumstances was tough.
The best of times.

I agree was kinda classes could have been done with so much more class. Basically throw them on the sidelines then let them march onto the field by themselves. Pretty pathetic!

My grandmother wrote his mother a condolence letter, and they corresponded for a long time after that.

Coach Stovall retained every one of Coach Rein's assistants. That staff remained intact for the first 2 years of Coach Stovall's tenure until Greg Williams, the DC, Bobby Morrison, the LB coach and Bob Gatling, the OC, were dismissed following the 1981 season. During the 1981 season, Coach Stovall had hired Buddy Nix to work with O-line but he moved to DC the next 2 years. Pete Jenkins had the title but Coach Nix called the defense. Coach Stovall brought in Mac Brown as the OC for the '82 year who soon was the HC at Appalachian State.

During a 10 year period, NC State's head coaches were:
Lou Holtz
Bo Rein
and
Monte Kiffin with Pete Carroll as defensive coordinator (16-17 record, wtf)
good lord.

Funny you should mention this. Cannon's agreed to one just within the last month or so. Should be out sometime in 2016.

I watched it last night. Very moving. I was 12 when he died. I've never forgotten that feeling. Everyone who loved LSU was just devastated. I remember crying at that age, not really knowing why. Cried last night too but I knew the reason now. What could have been.
It's a sad but important part of LSU football history.
