I wish people would understand just how difficult this was. A brand new staff that followed a coach here and just like that, he was gone. It's a real testament to a Coach Stovall that he was willing to take on a staff he didn't select.
I tend to agree with an earlier poster that Rein may have wound up at Ohio State when Earle Bruce was let go, but it could've meant that we may have had Mack Brown instead of Curly or Archer.

Will they finally say how much money was in his briefcase?

Enjoyed it quite a bit. I feel ashamed that I didn't know more about him.

Of course we will never know if he would have ended up back at Ohio St. but from what I gathered we came in second to Ohio St. in recruiting Bo. Could be the same situations with Miles here. Over and over and over everyone was saying he will be back at Michigan and we know that never happened. Bo could have very well been extremely happy here especially if he turned this program into a power house which I truly think he would have. He was "that" type of coach.

I was born in July of 81, so all this happened before me, but as a young fan, the story of Rein was told to me by my grandfather. Always struck me that he would have been really good, but obviously we will never know. Extremely sad story, he was a very young man.

I thought it was really well done. New territory for me, as that happened ages before I became a diehard.

Has it ever been said/written about who he was recruiting in Shreveport on that trip? I've always wondered that - sort of an interesting detail of the events.

per this link posted above , I'm guessing Bobby Agnor .... The day Bo Rein died nola.com 9-15-15

.... " Rein and Williams started their 15-hour day leaving Baton Rouge at 6:30 a.m. The only time they stopped moving was to eat. Their last stop was to visit Bobby Agnor, a recruit from Woodlawn who was already in the Tigers' fold..... ".

That visit, along with a stop to see Alvin Burns of Fair Park, was the last recruiting the 34-year-old coach did.

I haven't seen the Bo story yet, DVR'd it and will watch it tonite. Sorry if this was already mentioned as Rein was an incredible dual sport athlete at tOSU. He was drafted by the Baltimore Colts and Cleveland Indians, but injuries ended his career before it really began and he returned to coaching.

The plane's fateful path took it right over the North Carolina State campus, where down below Bo's wife and children were sleeping He had only been in BR for a little more than a month as his family was still living in NC .

I watched it last night. Very moving. I was 12 when he died. I've never forgotten that feeling. Everyone who loved LSU was just devastated. I remember crying at that age, not really knowing why. Cried last night too but I knew the reason now. What could have been.

It's a sad but important part of LSU football history.

I was 9 and had vague memories of it as well.

After seeing that documentary (it was quite moving, of course), my one question is, was he planning on running that goofy option at LSU? I couldn't remember that.

Until watching the show last night, I would have agreed with those who would have said that he would go to tOSU. But, I think I changed my mind when his brother talked about how they used to listen to games on WWL in their home in Ohio. I think he would have been a Tiger for life. Sadly, he was.

I like that the media guide still has his name in the list of LSU coaches: the only undefeated coach we have ever had who wasn't an interim. It's an appropriate tribute.

Bo who??? How about Bo Harris? All SEC linebacker for the Tigers '73 and spent 9/10 years in the NFL.

No link here, but TigerDoc's father wrote the Cannon bio that just came out. His/her sources are solid.

Very sad story indeed, but the actual show felt weak to me outside of telling the facts. I felt like I was watching a Bo Rein Wikipedia entry

Then they would add in lead in quotes that would go nowhere. For example in the lead in they said his death is still shrouded in mystery....yet they never even covered that base later on. Seems like there could be a lot more exposition done on the story

Wasn't very much to tell...a/c went NORDO, fighter jets were called and a USAF pilot watched an engine fail and the a/c spiral into the Atlantic...no wreckage was recovered, NTSB speculated (very short accident report, at that) that there was a pressurization leak (same fate that befell Payne Stewart) and they passed out and died from lack of oxygen. A/c had been turned east to avoid weather, probably on autopilot, and continued that course when they passed out.

You just told me more about the crash than the show did. They opened it up like there was possible foul play involved but never went into any detail

Thanks for the link. I didn't know about Coach Bo but damn, that really sucks for his poor wife and daughter. And not that it compares but it really sucks for us Tigers fans too, he had that "it" factor and would've led LSU back to the NC much sooner.

RIP Coach

really enjoyed watching it.

I had read various articles on Bo and heard old timers talk about his hiring but it was great to actually see writers, family members talk about him and even to hear him speak.

I have loved the SEC Network so far, on top of having games, it's nice to see content that focuses on the history of the conference and you get these great and tragic stories.

That goofy option was nearly unstoppable with that era's athletes. See the record for Alabama, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas.
