Think you are confusing Reid with on of the Jordans. Reid tied for third in walks (32 - fraley led with 37) and second with the least amount of Ks (21 - only one behind Krob).

I think he got started off slow, but really adjusted to the speed of the game well for being thrown in there. But I agree with the other post that said Lochridge is starting no matter what.

Any word on his back issues?

I wouldn't say no matter what. I'm a huge Lochridge fan and I called for him to play before he finally got his shot, but....Reid was very good. Loch was only hitting .229 when he went out. I know 2 of his 8 hits were homers and 3 others were doubles. I know he had a good glove over at the hot corner. I'm just saying, Reid was very good for a true freshman. If he makes any improvement there will be a battle at third. It's kind of an embarrassment or riches when you think about our infield.

You're returning your All SEC SS, 2 sophomores at 3rd, a quality senior at 2nd and you're bringing in what, 3 more stud middle infielders in the class.

It's going to be hard to keep Slaughter, Watson, and Smith off the field. They bring much needed pop to the lineup. Watson is lightning quick. Slaughter drops bombs. Smith was a 4 year starter for Catholic at SS.

Here's an interesting snippet from Chris Reid's bio in case anyone hadn't seen it (I hadn't until just now). Makes it even more impressive what Chris did this year.

Paul Mainieri on Chris Reid:

"He was primarily a left side of the field infielder in high school that we recruited with the idea of converting him into a catcher. If he can make the position switch effectively, and we think he can because of his physical tools, it would give us more depth in our catching corps as well as a good left-handed hitting catcher."

Do you know if Watson is doing the same thing Slaughter and Smith are and playing the college summer bat leagues?

Slaughter and Smith are both walking more than they're striking out. They already fit in with the current team.

Smith has been playing 2B and SS. Slaughter has had work at SS, 3B, and DH. They're going to be exciting players in LSU uniforms.

Didn't Advocate report a couple of weeks ago that Lochridge will be in a body cast for three months?

I wouldn't mind seeing Reid get some work behind the plate this summer with an eye on the season after next when Romero and probably Pap will be gone.

I know he isn't playing summer ball this year. They want him inactive. I'm hoping he gets the medical redshirt for last year. But if he's inactive until the fall, that's a lot of time out of baseball activity, so it's not a guarantee that he's going to just jump right back into a starting role.

Now that you mention it, Chris really reminds me of a catcher. He has the build and sort of reminds me of Gibbs when batting left handed. I'd be interested in seeing him get some work behind the plate

I didn't see this. I'm no expert on the topic, but I had the same injury in high school my senior year. I won't toot my own horn...but in way back in the day when he was first diagnosed and everyone said he'd be back in a week or 2 I said he'd be done for the year. I was right for once

Knowing what I do know about the injury, if the body cast is happening it doesn't sound good. It heals, but it always seems to be nagging. Of course I didn't have the resources that he has for treatment so it's not exactly apples to apples.

So I went on the Padres SB Nation site to see if they had any signing numbers on their top picks to start speculating on offers to Poche. And this is what I found there:

LINK

The Padres hate LSU.

Also Ryan Schimpf made his MLB debut with the Padres, but they still hate LSU.

Don't overlook Nick Coomes....finished year at LSU Eunice batting .359, led team in HRs 13 (3rd all time single season for LSUE), 25 doubles (1st all time single season LSUE and 3rd in nation), 81 RBIs (3rd all time single season LSUE and 7th in nation.

Batted cleanup the entire season so you know he didn't get as many good pitches to hit!

Can't wait! We need another big bat in the worst way.
