Is there supposed to be something in the link you gave about Poche or the Padres draft status or is that the point?

Do you know if Watson is doing the same thing Slaughter and Smith are and playing the college summer bat leagues?

Doubtful. Advocate article stated they were the only 2 LSU players to do it other than Gausman.

That went completely over my head. Thanks.

Maybe I've done a good job of erasing that nightmare from my memory.

Ah, okay. Hadn't seen that article yet. I was pulling stats to input onto my summer league hitting spreadsheet.

I'm lame.

Interesting. I honestly can't picture Reid behind the plate. Does he have the quickness to pop up and throw out a base runner?

Yes, as long as he doesn't have to run the ball to second base......

The Padres have gone significantly under slot on a lot of the guys they've signed so far. Including over $1MM under on a A&M commit. They're looking like they'll be able to make a big offer to Poche, if they want to.

They went about $300k over on their first pick, but that doesn't seem to be an issue with what they're saving elsewhere. If we want Poche back, we better hope Buddy Reed is a Boras client or something.

ETA: If I'm figuring it correctly, which is a decent sized if, they have saved about $1.9MM of pool money so far.

You didn't factor in that the Padres are owned by a moron and are generally inept. You may be giving them too much credit.

I couldn't find the right constant on FanGraphs to put that on my spreadsheet.

On that note, do you know how to go about figuring out wOBA constants? I'm using old MLB ones, but that's not an accurate reflection of CBB probabilities.

Tom Tango's SQL script for the baseball databank is out there, you could probably follow the script and compare to the data definitions to make sense of it, but the bigger problem would be finding all the data needed to run it for college ball.

The constants are unique to each season but fangraphs also has a basic formula for quick comparisons. Maybe it would be easier to start with that one and adjust based on some assumptions you could make for known differences between MLB and college?

Yeah, I'm using a basic formula with constants that I pulled from Wikipedia, oddly enough. I will work on finding the adjustments. The NCAA site has become loads more searchable when it comes to statistics. I'm still trying to figure out how to make it tell me what I want to know though.

ETA: I could also use some brushing up on the concepts behind the weightings, which will help me with the adjustments. Overall, I've got work to do, but it's interesting to me so I enjoy it.
