Couple wire photos I picked up from the Tj Moran estate sale last year. Sadly, some are losses and the 1959 has a couple condition issues

I don't know if there is a top 10 greatest post ever on TD, but this should be one.

So many memories from age 12! Johnny Robinson, J.W. Broadnax, Warren Rabb, Larry Kahlden, Kaynell Kinchen, Tommy Davis, Donnie Daye, Hart Bourque(spelling), Mickey Mangham, Billy(?) Hendrix, et.al.!!
Had the Life magazine Chinese bandit issue. Lost it in a divorce move; dammit/dammit/dammit. It's my most favorite all time photograph; set as my "screen saver". My son has a good collection of his and my stuff thru the ages. Unfortunately none of the personal items you have. Enjoy!!

What kind of items do you and your son have if you wouldn't mind sharing? I started collecting with my father as well and its another great bonding experience to have. I have items which are more memorable and personally valuable to me than the jersey and the ring solely because they were given to me by my father or obtained by us during the search for memorabilia.
Also I'm not sure if your's was signed, however they still have some on ebay unsigned and in decent condition. I did a quick search and here are a few links. Its the October 10, 1959 issue. You can still get it autographed by several of the still living bandits. I know they arn't "your copy", but if you want get another, they arnt that expensive. Hope that helps and thanks for sharing your story.

Evening everyone, on this hot Louisiana August Wednesday. I thought I'd do another display, however, this time a few items from the 1959 season only. Everything is original/vintage except the white newspaper copy on the far right which was made from a buddies original. The trophy is an exact bronze replica, not a 1/2-3/4 scale resin copy like on eBay. It was cast in bronze from a the mold of an actual Heisman trophy. The art company was granted permission from the Heisman Trust (and supplied with a trophy) to make a select few, and I purchased the last one several years ago. My father I made the base out of oak after researching and acquiring the precise dimensions of the original. We then stained and aged the base and secured the statute to the base. I made the nameplate to match Billy Cannon's trophy and then had him sign it. I found some actual unused nameplates made for the trophies, however they were made for ones produced in the 1960's and thus had a white line boarder. The final product weighs over 20 lbs. The former 1958 players present when Billy signed it, along with other fans present, thought it was the actual trophy either from LSU or from TJ Ribs. They did not know it was a replica until I told them. It was difficult to get a good angle with everything else in the shot but it matches up to the real thing in weight and measurements.
Enjoy.
Other items are:
1) Center: Some may have seen my unused 1959 LSU vs Ole Miss ticket which is 1 of only 2 known to exist unused. Also signed by Cannon. How many here were actually (truthfully) present at the 1959 Ole Miss game?
2) Center: 1959 Heisman Trophy Ceremony Program signed by Cannon, Dietzel Vice President (at the time) Richard Nixon, Frank Gifford, Mel Allen and Jim Lee Howell who were in attendance.
3) Bottom right is a North Carolina sports page the day after Cannon's run with the title and story "Cannon Blast Shocks Rebels".
4) Center newspaper is one of my favorites. A friend of my mothers husbands passed away and I was given some newspapers and other various LSU items which he kept through the years. This was among them and I have never seen another one. It is a frame by frame of Cannons run. I had a few copies blown up and also signed.
5) Second photo from the top left is an original John Gasquet and the only ones around are ones I made copies.
6) Followed by several signed wire photos. Various signed magazines of Cannon and Dietzel. A 1959 schedule card. The record and slip cover of Cannons run. 1959 LSU vs Tenn ticket stub and 59 LSU vs TCU program signed by Cannon. 1959 LSU vs Miss St program. 59 LSU vs Kent program signed by several 59 players.
Enjoy.

If I recall correctly, #64 in LSU OleMiss photo is Larry Kahlden?

Do you have the 58 or 59 (can't remember) Weekly Reader with Cannon and Billy Jr.? Same as previous post; mine lost forever. The Weekly Reader was a newspaper for elementary kids back in the 1950's. Had good stuff for early learners to keep abreast of what was happening outside of our little sphere.
It covered the story of he and his wife and their baby. When asked what his greatest thrill at LSU was he stated it was a 100 yrd. kickoff return while on the freshman team...I believe against aTm.
Back in the day, freshman were not allowed to play varsity ball. There was actually a freshman football season.

I dont think that I have that one. I can look around and see if I can find one.
When I first heard about the freshman football team many years ago, I thought that was a crazy concept but still pretty cool. I have since acquired some "Baby Bengals" as they were apparently called, programs from the 60's and 70's. Pretty interesting stuff.
What were the freshman games like back then?

I'd wear that jersey around the house on gameday

I have one of those records, with the sleeve, unsigned. What do you suppose it's worth?

Never saw one, just read Advocate. If I remember they were shortened versions, actually now that I think about it maybe more like scrimmages. Though they did keep score.

No Pat Lyons, James Gillyard, Steve Rehage or Rondell Mealy?????

Wow, just looked at the ring again and realized that the stadium is in the recessed area with the "L!!!"
So cool.

Do you know if they play inside Tiger Stadium or on the practice fields?

Yea the attention to detail is pretty awesome. From the stands, the portals, the "media deck" and the "L". Simple and classy.

olegreg,
Really testing my memory here, but I'm thinking a practice field or possibly high school stadium. Don't really recollect, but I do believe they played at least some of the times the same team/weekend that the varsity played. If that recollection is correct, then it likely would not have been Tiger stadium.
Online searches did not yield anything relative to scheduling or where games played. Remember, freshman were not eligible to play until 1972. Here's an interesting excerpt from Advocate Nov 4, 2011 article on the 1959 LSU vs OleMiss game from Cannon's perspective:
“Our (1956) freshman team beat them for the first time,” LSU’s only Heisman Trophy winner, Billy Cannon, said with a sting remaining in his words. “We lost 14-12 in my sophomore year. The next year (1958) we were putting in a new offense (the Wing-T) and beat them 14-0 - shut them out - and they were upset.”
PS: 1958 was Bryan't first year at Bama and we took them out 13-3.
Here's a great link to the Bama '58 Bama game:
