Evening all. I would like to share a couple of items which I have been lucky enough to have added to my collection in 2016, with each one trumping the other in acquisition. I'm sure most here have seen the old thread concerning my collection, and although I haven't posted any updates in 5 years, I have continued on collecting at a decent pace. In the last 7 months, I have had a couple opportunities to add some items which I would consider museum quality, and I would love it if people posted their own items or stories concerning similar items, just as was done in my old thread. Some great tales were told by those who were there to witness these legends and feats, and I know that I, as well as many others, thoroughly enjoyed the stories. Without further delay;

1) 1962 Orange Bowl watch owned by former Assistant Football Coach, and also Head Coach of the 1961 SEC Champion Baseball Team, Ray Didier. I purchased it from his grandson at the beginning of this year. It is an Elgin automatic. It has his initials engraved on the side. It still runs perfectly.

2) 1958 National Championship Ring. I purchased it from a relative of the 1958 member & LSU HOF member, who had inherited it when his uncle had passed away in the 1970s. It has his name engraved on the inside and is a pretty massive and impressive piece of art. Now if only I can get a 2003 and 2007 ring to sit beside it.

3) Finally, I won this in an auction in Illinois and received it today. This is Tommy Davis's 1958 game used jersey worn the entire season and in the 1959 Sugar Bowl against Clemson. It came with a signed letter/story from a member of the 1958 team who kept it in his possession from 1958 until selling it in 2005 to a sports collector in Illinois. Upon the collectors passing, I acquired it from his estate at auction. It is the only 1958 jersey I have ever seen for sale and one of only a handful I know to exist. I have a 2007 BCS Championship game jersey, so now all I'm missing is 2003. The first several photos are ones from the auction house showing multiple angles. The last few are ones I took of it along with a couple of my other 1958 pieces. The only pieces which are not original/vintage are the 8x10 photo in the bottom left and the helmet. However, all autographs are original.

Vs Alabama

I appreciate everyone looking. I hope that this current team can win another one this year so I can one day have some more jerseys and rings to go along with these.

Do you only collect items from prior to Mikell Williams/Lora Hinton Jr. joining the team in 1971-72 (start of desegregation)?

Items from 1890s-2015 is the span of my collection. I've been trying for years to get Carl Otis Timble's game used signed jersey from a high school buddy of mine's father.

I predict that one day in the near future, you will get into photography.

You will then find out how insanely expensive photography is and sell off your entire collection to feed your new addic...., er, um, "hobby".

Just sayin'...

Just bought autographed Tyrann, Peterson and Bert Jones jerseys this week. Hope to hang them up in a line of 777. Hopefully I'll add a fournette one within the next year. Those are awesome btw. Some of the greatest pieces of memorabilia I've ever seen. I cant even imagine your TAF ranking. Also isn't it funny how the jerseys used to essentially be heavy t shirts.

Nice. I have some ideas Ive been doing for the 18 and 7s but havent got around to completing them.

Yea its pretty interesting to see how the jerseys have evolved from essentially sweaters, to thick shirt style jerseys, thin shirt style tear aways, mesh and then dri-fit compression style.
Always loved the old stripes. Still not a fan of the current ones.

Here's a photo I took several years ago at Jack Jaubert's place. Told me a story about how that was the jersey he wore against ND in 1971. After the game fans stormed the field and started patting, hugging, and grabbing the players. Well Jack had a minor hip injury during the game so he was pretty heavily tapped under the jersey. When one fan accidentally pulled on the jersey, it started ripping apart as Jack walked away. So this is all that is left. Then not many years ago, his wife was cleaning the house and though it was just some rags/yard clothes and decided to wash them. He was pretty upset as it had blood, grass stains, purple and gold paint from the field, and also gold from ND helmets.

wow, that is great stuff..thanks for sharing, I get the feeling that there are a good number of collections around in private homes that put the museum on campus to shame, and your 58 materials are "priceless" in some ways..see the 58 book written by PD there, how many copies exist? I have seen two....and the jersey is some kind of special... How many have you seen who many your overall collection?

I'm thinking Jacob Hester's autographed jersey may be my Christmas present this year. But an 18 collection would be phenomenal but hard to track down, seeing as they're less often glory players who wouldn't be considered "in demand" to non-LSU fans.

"Wing-T" by Coach Dietzel is a fairly rare book as it does not pop up that often. However since I have been collecting I have seen a decent amount of them. They used to come up about once every year or so and would disappear quickly. Condition is everything as most are in poor condition.
As for my collection, only my family has seen everything. I used to have a thread on here around 2011 and would post updates when I would acquire something interesting. However it got hijacked and I just let it go.

I may decide to post some updates now from time to time in this thread since the reaction is positive.

True. Need to catch them when they are still at LSU, during the off-season, or during an event. Hester is one of my all time favorites on the field and also a great guy off the field if you have the chance to meet him. You should try doing a championship RB/QB item. They look pretty nice.

Tyson Jackson's 1st half jersey. He and many others switched out their jerseys at halftime because of rips/tears (and need of repairs), and into their backup jersey for the 2nd half. Many players also switch out jerseys at halftime, like some in pro sports do, simply for the fact that it is dirty and full of sweat etc.

I appreciate all the positive responses from everyone.

I wanted to put this in the photo with some of my other 1958 items but I couldnt make it fit into the shot. Ive seen two others like this. One is from a poster here. It is a document from the 1958 team after the season, making someone close to the team or a big supporter, an honorary member of the 1958 team. It is signed by all the coaches and players. Mine is a bit faded as far as a few of the signatures as was the condition when I got it. There are I believe 3 player and 2 coaches signatures which have faded to where only the indention of the signature remains but which can be made out, the rest still have ink. I have since had it framed under museum glass to keep from further fading. These photos are from years back so I apologize for the quality/glare.
