He better get ready to do it this season. Key can't stay on the field the whole game.

ESPN still has him at 207. Maybe that's why he's still listed as a 3 star.

Size is going to have little to do with a ranking. See K'lavon Chaisson.

I may be wrong but I remember us discussing this during that recruiting cycle, in regards to his play. He's a sack artist at the moment, but will have room to develop into an all around player. Even if he doesn't, you saw from Williams and Bama how good it is to have a guy come in onky on 3rd downs, and whose only mission is to "go get the quarterback".

Just giving plausible explanations to the OP on his question of why Martin was only a 3-star recruit.
Not really.
He didn't do the combine nonsense as much as others. Stats mean little in evaluations, obviously, because 33.5 sacks in 4A ball in LA would equate to 5star status. Miles Garrett is pitiful against the run, but he'll be a first round pick.

Come on man he is a 3 star because he did not sign with Bama. If he goes to Bama then he's the best thing since slice bread

I started the OP because it looks like we'll need him to step in right away and contribute and all indications are that he should. When you look at his HS production, yes, he was a pass rush specialist but 33+ sacks just stands out as truly exceptional no matter how you slice it. When you combine that kind of production with what seems to be a physically ready kid, I just didn't understand why he wouldn't at least have been a very high 3 star or low 4 star. He was rated in the mid 400s in the 24/7 composite. Seems like just based on their own system he should have been more like upper 300s. Again all of that is moot now that he's on campus and ready to smash it.

And you're right. If he had committed to Bama early in the process he would have no doubt been a high 4 star.

He was skinny and had grade issues. Then had a huge growth spurt took care of his grades and then had offers from everywhere. Ppl saying he may end up being the best signee of the class.

Very simple why he was three star. Typical late bloomer. He was undersized with the size of safety when he was going into his senior year and he never had the crazy production until his senior year. When he signed he was either going to be a first or second rounder, or someone you would never hear about again.

A lot of college safeties are between 200-215 lbs which is what he was summer before his senior year. You can't be that thick in head.

You do realize he measured 6'4 207 when he was tested? You can also comprenhend Ricky Jefferson is 6'0 209? Meaning his bmi was way less than a college safety back when they were ranking players for his class. Were you being serious? I hope not...

Mingo is a horrible comparison. Mingo also ran way better 4.87 especially when he was that size. Mingo was also workout freak that was all based on potential because he did not play linebacker or d line in high school.
