LSU finally has decent JUCO pitching right here in town. Austin Young, lefty, threw a no-hitter yesterday against a ranked team. BRCC has several pitchers w/ low ERAs and a good amount of innings.

BRCC website says he threw it against Kellogg CC. I don't think they are ranked, they didn't look very good against Eunice today.

Sciambra is an outfielder. Cave could be a two way player if he makes it here.

It was mentioned somewhere that his family was concerned about budget cuts to a particular program. He is likely to be picked in the top few rounds anyway.

sciambra should make it to campus. heard Nola is a ?.. worked a few BRCC scrimmages behind the dish and they had two pitchers who fo sho can play at DI level, not sure who they were.. but sure Young is one I saw

Does anyone know anything about #8 from St John HS.. he's one of better pitchers i've seen this year.. was told he's not even their #1 guy..had 4 pitches he was throwing for strikes.. power fastball and the best knuckle i've seen this year.. just curious if he's being recruited.. not sure what grade he was in

MLB Bonus Baby Blog

Brief notes on 2011 prospects:
quote:

Carson Baranik, P , Bossier HS, LA: Strong frame. Plus breaking ball and good fastball. Easy delivery, built to eat innings.

quote:

Jake Cave, OF/P , Kecoughtoan Hampton VA: Cave can run it up to 94 on the mound and has a decent BB and a really good change. At the plate he has a shot quick swing with power potential. Classic two way player is commited to LSU.

quote:

Aaron Nola, P , Catholic, Baton Rouge, LA: Nice movement on fastball that is between 88-91. Very good polished change and solid breaking ball.

quote:

Johnny Eierman, SS , Warsaw (Warsaw, Mo.): Long strong swing. Good potential at the plate. Above average speed that plays up. His actions at SS needs some work but he has the arm to stay there.

So I notice we have 16 possibly 17 commits for 2011. We have 2 seniors...only junior definitely leaving is Mahtook.

So where's all the attrition going to come from? Assuming we lose like 3-4 guys to the MLBD, are we going to lose like 10 players on our current roster?

I'm gonna do a thread like I did a few years ago on the rant soon keeping track of the roster in the off-season. I hate speculating on attrition, so I will try to stay away from that.

But there are definitely some roster issues coming to a head. I know that we have Rittiner, Bourgeois, and Bruno coming back, and I don't think any of them counted towards the 35 man roster. I also don't think that the two late walk-ons counted towards it either. Reed red-shirted but was part of the 35. Hopkins was also out with medical redshirt, but I don't know if he was part of the 35.

I won't start the thread until after the season, because there won't be any news until then, and then around the draft.

eta: I do wonder if anyone unexpectedly gets drafted and bolts like Dishon did last year. I think there are a couple candidates for that.

From the on field product, Mainieri's recent comments, and the number of signees we have you have to assume a pretty big roster shakeup is coming. Apparently pointing this out is frowned upon by the Rant, but to be fair I probably shouldn't have brought it up in a game thread

Well, I'd bet the farm Tyler Jones isn't back next season. I'm sure a pitcher or two won't be asked back. Not sure if a guy like Didier will be back.

I definitely agree with this. Jones is gone. Didier should be gone, and will more than likely will go back to some west coast college (pure speculation).

And I also agree that we'll probably lose a pitcher or two.

Any chance one of the three catchers isn't asked back?
