What is the story on Dillon Howard? He is a 6' 4" pitcher from Searcy, Ark. I heard he visited to Arkansas, but his heart is at LSU. He grew up in North La.(Monroe area)and Arkansas. Thanks.

This is an article about Dillon Howard. If he doesn't go pro, he would like to go to LSU.

Baranik and Bell appear to be big time.

I play Baranik at least twice a year, we are in the same city, he is NOT big time. Us (Airline Vikings) rip him everytime. He's a headcase, also.

Brent Bonvillain was one of the top recruits for the Early signing period last fall. He is playing at Delgado this year and is currently Perfect Game's #13 Juco player, up from #36.

From just about everything I've seen he is expected to be picked in the top 10 rounds, and it isn't based on what he does against the Airline Vikings. Every year you see guys get drafted after down years or without thoroughly dominating every opponent. I got three hits in a game off Ben Sheets, and he turned out ok.

Also, according to maxpreps your team has scored a total of 6 runs against Parkway in the last two years. Even if he pitched every inning of both games I wouldn't exactly call that ripping him.

Call bullshite on the 3 hits against Ben sheets unless you played in the same division and are counting all the games. 3 for 45 maybe.

Any of those guys are power hitters. Didn't the NCAA just changed to a new type of bat that would make it a lot harder to hit homers?

NCAA and the NJCAA both changed the bats. Home run production is reported to be down, so I would guess there will be an emphasis on defense and creative base running.

I seem to remember Baranik beating Airline when he was a Soph and Airline made it to the quarter or semis that year.

His junior year, he had a lot of mechanical issues and got a little frustrated. Which is understandable considering everyone (including himself) had high expectations.

His velocity was way down and his curve would flatten out as well, but he got his mechanics straightened out by summer ball.

Baranik is a very respectful young man, I wish him the best. Except when he plays my son's team

BAHighSchool Someone told me last week they heard RHP Carson Baranik was up to 95 in a workout a few weeks ago. Just heard it from a scout myself. about 1 hour ago via web Retweeted by kcscoliny

Looks like Baranik may be moving up the draft charts..

LSU commit Nick Goody off to a fast start at SCF:Manatee-Sarasota. Stats

31 Ks, 4 BBs in 20 innings so far and the season just started a couple weeks ago.

Seems to be a Casey Weathers-type story. Went to JUCO as an IF but has started pitching and is touching the low to mid 90s.

Goody info from Perfect Game. Bold and emoticon added by me.

quote:

Though relatively new to pitching, Goody has been possibly the nation’s most dominant junior-college arm this spring. In his first six appearances (5 starts) for the Manatees, covering 35 innings, he was 4-0, 1.53 and had walked just seven while striking out 60.

In one start against Florida State College-Jacksonville in late February, Goody fanned 19 in eight innings before being lifted with a pitch count of 115. He dominated by throwing mainly sinking fastballs in the 88-91 mph range, and mixing in late-breaking sliders at 78-81 mph and a workable change. A fierce competitor, he has the shown the ability to grab a little extra when he needs it and often tops out at 93.

Goody, who committed to Louisiana State as a pitcher last fall, has made a quick transition to pitching. He was signed out of a Florida high school primarily as a shortstop, and just started being used in a starting role last summer in the Florida Collegiate Summer League.

“He was our starting shortstop as a freshman for the first 16 games or so,” Manatees coach Tim Hill said, “but with his sporadic defense and hitting we made a change. After a couple of weeks, we decided to pitch him out of the pen as a set-up guy for our closer, and he started getting serious about pitching late in the season. He had some success in that role without much preparation, and started to get a feel for being a pitcher in the summer league and continued his development this fall.

Goody is a typical smallish righthander at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, and his size may ultimately work against him the draft, but his overnight success as a pitcher has not gone unnoticed in the scouting community, particularly his feel for pitching and ability to compete.
