He is legit and has outstanding ball skills for a tall wing player. Great shooter, slick passer, handles the ball well. It's a tribute to TJ's recruiting that Vandy or Duke did not get this kid. He was the star of his team last year when Ludwig was a Sr. He will get serious pt next year and could possibly start.

We really do not need 4 point guards and Dotson, too, do we?

The college game can be dominated by great guard play. 5 and 6 guys with the talent to rotate at your two guard spots just makes your team better and gives you the option to set up more pressure defenses. Look for TJ to install a few more full-court traps next year with the added depth.

one is more than zero. Oh and they won a state title that year so id say they play pretty well together.

Right. Many of Ludwig's baskets came off of double-teams headed for Derenbecker and a slick pass from Matt. Ludwig will be an asset next season with the extra strength and weight he'll gain. He would have r/s this season in a normal year along with Dotson. Both will be much better next year IMO.

i played against him in HS and dont think he is a good as everyone else does. i think hes a very solid player but not someone that is going to save the program or anything. not very athletic but fundamentally sound. 6'6 180 scares me as well

hope im wrong and hes a star here

good question but the reality is that we need as many players as possible who can handle the ball...protect the ball...shoot the ball...and create off the dribble. Jay Wright at Villanova has, in the past, and is now running a potent form of a '3 guard offense.' Until TJ can fully (4yrs) recruit a balanced squad he may have to just 'improvise, adapt and overcome.'

He is very legit

He was All-State as a sophomore @ Ponchatoula. White guys don't make 5-A all-state unless they are legit.

I have seen him play alot this yr. My step-son plays on the team. He is good, but not so sure he can handle the pressure of "big-time" SEC basketball. I may be wrong but as far as a starter/full time player not sure. Hopefully I'm wrong but guess we'll see.

And you might be right. I'm not going to pretend to be some HS basketball guru cause I'm just a guy in the stands, but the games I have seen him play lead me to believe that he has a chance to at least be a solid, productive player for us. What he does beyond that, if anything, is up to him and we all will have to wait to see.

There can be a pretty nice upside to a basketball smart, "fundamentally sound" guy if the guy wants there to be. imo

He's going to be solid eventually.

He needs to work on his quickness and also being a more consistent shooter. He can be lights out from 3 pt land or miserable!

Well, he's 6-7, averaged over 20 per game, rebounded over 11 per game, had 6 assist per game, can score inside or outside

That was the scouting report on Ludwig too.. I'm not saying they won't both be good players but expecting Derenbecker to start as a freshman or sophmore is like asking Ludwig to do that right now.. and the way you guys have been trashing on Ludwig makes it seem like you wouldn't like that..
