Wrong! LSU is still and will continue to recruit highly rated qbs regardless homie.

JR was the best QB in CFB in 2006. did Tommy Hodson ever get into that discussion in any year of his time at LSU?

Tommy Hodson was MONEY for 4 years at LSU. And VERY high profile on a national basis. I would be very surprised if many LSU fans who watched both would prefer Russell. I'd take Hodson overwhelmingly over Russell. Not even close for me. He was consistent, tough as hell, had crazy chemistry with his recievers and had a flair for the dramatic. He didn't have Russell's arm strength, but who did?

I'd also put Wendell Davis above Dwayne Bowe, but that one is closer for me. For my money, the best two combos were Hodson/Davis and Rohan/Reed. Hard to beat those two combos.

Nope, he is NOT starting for the Titans of the NFL. Why? Because he got injured and is out for the season the last I heard. And I'm not talking running QBs in the NFL...I'm talking dual-threat QBs in college.

it is also important to be able to read defenses and recognize coverage

I agree 100% but those attributes are neither unique to either pro style or dual threat QBs

ust because the Raiders made one of the worst draft choices in NFL history...and yes, that is in everyone's top 5 or so, that does not make him the best QB in college football for ANY year he was at LSU.

go look at his stats. he had the 3rd best rating in all of CFB. he shite on troy smith that year

Vito-You say that Ryan P did nothing to impress you? Well WITHOUT Ryan LSU do not play for the national championship. Need I remind you of who was the MVP of the SEC Championship game the year LSU won the 2007 National Championship?

If you couldn't see the potential of what was to come then you should stop looking at football.

why do people act like JR was a big arm and nothing else?

in 2006 he threw at a 67.8% passing rate at 9.1 ypa

...in a conservative, pro-style offense

...with a fricking monster schedule

No matter the preference the bottom line is LSU has to have at the very least a decent passing game to accommodate the run.

exactly

look at the #1 team. they are rebuilding on offense with a RB-turned QB who put up better stats than our superstar QB last year

JR had a hell of a season in 06,at the same time some may argue he cost LSU a shot at the NC.

Yep, I'm sure that you and I are not the only ones to know that. Might I suggest that one HUGE problem is that LSU has been leading by far the nation in early entrants to the NFL draft. Surely would be nice to have Odell Beckham in 2014 at LSU huh? That has also been an issue along the OL too with guys like Faulk, Turner, etc. Last I saw I believe, LSU had 18 leave early last couple of years...Alabama in 2nd place with 12. Passing I keep stressing is not just the QB...it is the OL blocking...it is the WRer and RBs and TEs being competent. Oh, and let me stress one more issue. You can help the passing game along with the running game by actually running misdirection plays. Ask A&M.

BTW, speaking of TEs above, as one of the announcers said on one of the LSU games..."LSU has like 10,000 tight ends on the roster and they haven't been able to find the right one."

All of this considered, let's think about this. Cam Cameron has pulled in 2 qbs since he has been at LSU: Harris and McMillan. He's considered a solid qb coach and out of everyone in the nation, that's his 2 guys. Also, McMillan leads a stud team and is a good talent and manager of his team. I understand the arm strength concern people have posted about. That is more of a velocity concern in the flat, not his deep ball. He can help us for sure and at a time when LSU urgently needs help, don't disregard how highly they must think of this kid.

Calm down, Son.
What planet is is that we live on where complimenting a guy's cannon arm is morphed into "nothing else"....
Did I say that?
I was always pro-Jamarcus.
I just told you I thought Hodson was better at LSU and told you why.

Then I started a thread on the Rant because it had never occurred to me that LSU fans that watched both could possibly favor Russell over Hodson. You might want to read it.

Will be great to have him on campus. Something about a kid that plays with a chip on his shoulder and is always trying to prove himself.

Guy, you haven't seen McMillan play I assume.

i've watched the videos of him, but no I haven't seen him play live.

Russell Shepard was a horrible passer...

well that's not really true at all... shepard passing...

People who haven't seen the guy...sorry, your opinions are unqualified!

i'm just a fan...watching another spread QB coming to LSU play in a run heavy, under center offense.

I'll be optimistic...

My sentiments exactly, not questioning the kids ability but rather his skillset for LSU's scheme.

My take is that he is undersized and has below average arm talent. He does not have overwhelming speed either. Career backup.

Sorry if this is not positive, just tryin to keep it real.

Perhaps you need to watch more football if you think someone in his second, and final, LSU start goes 20 for 30 for 243 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT is absolutely guaranteed for future greatness. Indeed, his post-LSU career would suggest otherwise.

Those are my expectations as well, and assuming we keep both AJ and BH on the roster for 2015, and further assuming we sign Patterson and/or Franks in 2016, I fine with him being a career back-up.
