Shea would be really nice to have. But if goes Ole Miss and we keep Franks, then look for LSU to offer Cole Kelly for the 2nd spot. Kelly is less ready, but might have more upside than Shea.

OM has recruited quite well this year and they aren't done yet. They aren't closing the way they'd hoped(lewis, Richmond and possibly Jefferson DE committing) but they have a good class. Just because some don't know the names of the kids they have doesn't mean they aren't good prospects. They've got some good talent coming in. Also MS is loaded next year and they will be right in there with all of them. Already have the #1 wr committed in Metcalf.

Don't get me wrong we are still better and have a better class but that staff can recruit, no matter how many think they do it.
Question for those that throw the cheating angle out at OM, if they pay kids and all these kids are decommitting, does that mean the schools these kids sign with are paying too? Watch your answer because of Lewis. I'm guessing many will say Lewis is the only one not on the take.

This is the way I'm looking at it. It's never a good thing to miss out on a kid on Patterson's level, but Franks is not a consolation prize. They are both high level QB's in their own right. I want Kelly on the team. In part because he plays for my school, but I've seen him and he makes throws at times that pretty much defy all logic. He's going to sit behind Harris and Franks for a few years, but I think he would do great things by the time he graduates.

I'm pretty stoked about Franks, losing Patterson would suck but I don't think LSU loses that much with this exchange.

I think the fact that Franks is committed here is driving away Patterson. I hate this because I've heard there are top recruits who want to go where Shea goes. We will lose top instate recruits if we don't land Shea! We can't realistically think we will get both he and Franks to commit here, it doesn't make sense from a recruiting perspective. I like them both as qbs but I think Patterson has the edge over Franks in that he has attempted more passes, has a higher comp %, has half the int's, has thrown for 26 more TD's, only 1 fumble to Frank's 5, and a higher qbr. All this in the past 2 years. If Ole Piss gets Shea we will be in trouble!

franks is big and tall but seems very "stiff" to me sometimes while watching his film from camps and highlights.
he's got a big arm and a big build though

shea just looks like a QB USC would get.
He's very "quick" and accurate. his footwork seems to be night and day better than franks.

Franks is an excellent prospect and all LSU. If Shea doesn't like the competition, then no biggie.

yeah that would be a shame if shea doesn't want to compete. if franks is a pitcher, shea reminds me of a short stop or a third basemen with his footwork and arm.

Lots of kids are awesome in camp. He's got all the techniques down pat, but we have no idea what he'll do when he's on the field against elite competition.

I think Franks will be an excellent QB. He doesn't look "pro ready" in his technique like Shea, but you don't have to have perfect technique to excel in college. I think LSU will be fine without Shea, but that's not to say I wouldn't love him to commit to LSU.

I agree with Color of Kings - from what I'm told from family in North LA, Patterson is not only a gifted QB, but is also known as a leader who can/will attract other good N. LA players to follow him - offensive players, in particular, know what the kid is capable of doing to lead a team to championships. Considering our less than stellar recent history in landing some key players from N. LA(especially the Monroe area), it could mean more than just losing a quality QB. The Bama/Saban influence is already there, and we don't need Ole Miss taking any of our finest. On the flip side, if we get Patterson, both Bama and Ole Miss influence could diminish in the future. There are lots of reasons to want Patterson - Franks may be very good, but his numbers aren't as good as Patterson, he's not as polished, and he's doesn't have a LA following like Patterson with other players.

I want Patterson playing CFB in P&G.

For all the heartache we've had at QB and then having an in-state prospect of that caliber leave the state would be sickening.

In a year's time Ole Miss' "success" this season will be forgotten. Freeze has plenty of time to lose seven games before Patterson commits.
