OL is a need, imo
it was awful last year, and we have limited depth heading into 2010, no doubt
Have you looked at the roster/depth chart? I even sorted it for you. Add Fordham, Porter, and Nick Jacobs to that depth chart also.

OL was NOT a need. Spencer Ware was a 5*, and we missed on Seastrunk, Davis, and Marsh.

yea, look at the huge amount of inexperience
if youre comfortable with the OL going into next season, then, well, ok

No doubt? You really don't get it. Ofcourse we need improved OL play, but you are 2-3 years late addressing it from a recruiting standpoint. We only lost two seniors and will only have one senior next year. There is plenty enough young talent/depth on the roster, it needs to be coached and developed. You aren't going to fix the quality of play next year with this class, OL take time to develop.

It was a huge amount of inexperience last year. If you're not okay with our depth being mostly comprised of juniors and sophs.. not sure I can help you
Shaw - JR
Barksdale - SR
Josh D - JR
Blackwell - JR
And a shite ton of sophs/RS sophs.

i wonder
there seems to be a lot of converted players, guys who proved they arent very good, and guys who were questionable offers in the first place
chris faulk, stavion lowe, alex hurst and a few others will be good, the rest, we'll see i guess

how many of those guys have received significant playing time?

So you are concerned about the huge amount of inexperience and you think it will get better by bringing in a lot more inexperience? Yeah, makes sense.

no, we should go a sign some vets in free agency...

Barksdale, Blackwell, Josh D, Branch, Tbob, Hurst, Longergan, Parsons (at FB), Shaw..
Is that enough?

This is a very solid class.
I think the reason some complain is because that recruit that everyone coveted-- that Lache Seastrunk type of player-- didn't commit this year.
It's more of an ego thing, and has nothing to do with the players coming in.
This class will contribute and add strong depth at stacked positions. This is a workman-like, hard-nosed group that you'll want to have.

Exactly. Next year's class will be the star-studded one.

The vets we are losing on the OL weren't exactly great this year either, so I guess you felt good about those guys last year because Black was still here.I loved what Black did over his career but his SR. year was not good. Our young guys will be fine.RB was the biggest need area and we hit a home run there imo.

So, you do indeed think having an excess number of inexperienced linemen will fix the problem or are you just conceding defeat in the argument?

Rivals-6
ESPN-8
Scout-7
Any team in top 10 is great!! The only real loss of this class is Marsh. Wright& Williams= Davis & Hunter.

The only things that concerns me about the O-Line are the selection of the starters and the lack of coaching technique ,fundamentals and paying attention to details by lazy Stud the
"Dud". You can place the blame for the O-Line performance squarely on his shoulders.

quote:Am ok with our top 10 ranked class this year... That said, I'm noticing what seems like a lot of really good Louisiana talent being heavily and successfully recruited by out of state schools. Am not saying the LSU "lock" on in-state talent is broken, but am wondering if it isn't getting a little bit rusty.
Next year's class...
DDon likes this class, but he too has questions. This view is on today's installment...

...it could have been much better if Les Miles had focussed more on a five- to six-hour drive from LSU rather than recruiting players from Virginia and as far away as California. It is very seldom that recruits who are being recruited by big-time programs in their area or in their state will travel across the country to play for a school with whom they have no family ties. I hope that Les Miles will allow Frank Wilson to focus on recruiting Louisiana and areas within five to six hours of LSU for the 2011 signing class.
