i agree. anyone FSU offered from out of state at that time was a bona fide stud.

i dont know about touted or whatever, but Perrilloux was the best player I've ever seen
he was shredding Louisiana 5A football and was an elite passer and runner. really think he would have won at least one heisman and been a really high draft pick.

Sharing time with Preston during the season has nothing to do with what i posted. Fall camp is before games start. Not to mention Preston redshirted and did not get one carry in the 93 season
I guess WD was lying when i heard him tell the story in my presence, or when Bobby Bowden did, or when he wrote about it in his book.
Several schools were recruiting him as CB. LSU in 1992 (year before WD signed) had signed the FAB5 RB's and never truly convinced WD he would have a legitimate opportunity to run the ball at LSU.
Looking back in hindsight that does sound ridiculous but sadly this was the Curley years.

This kid has potential to be amazing. Don't think anyone should crown this kid the best yet but he's a stud. He reminds me of watchin Adrian Peterson in HS

Let me clarify.. He is one of the 3 best HS jr's I have seen since I have been watching HS football..

Story I heard was law enforcement was waiting for him when Jennings returned from the Superdome after beating Cecilia in the state championship game. He supposedly took off out of the backdoor of the bus, but for one of the only times that season, he was caught.
Don't know how much of that story was urban legend. But I do know he could have picked any school he wanted to as a running back and he had an offer from Rick Pitino to play point guard for Kentucky. What a stud.

I still can't believe that Perrilloux wasn't a top 10 recruit by Rivals in 2005, but Rueben and McKnight were top two in following years. RP had like 67 total TDs his senior year against the stiffest competition in the state. I still remember that Evangel game where he single handily almost won the game. I've only followed recruiting since 2003 or so, but RP had more national buzz than Fournette or any other LA prospect in that time period.
ETA: But Fournette is great. Really good size, pretty good speed, but I love the physicality he plays with.

Travis still had a good night but the OL had no chance of protecting Applewhite that night.
That was an incredible collection of skill players that year for the Bears but championships are won with great defensive fronts.

I saw Joe Mcknight a few times, but the teams they were playing were so inferior, that he didnt have to do much.

The OP asked who was most highly touted, not best player. It's unfair to compare players before 2000, b/c the tout industry was not quite what it is today.
McKnight would be up there, but so would Faulk, Doucet, Joe Ferguson, Berlin and, in particular Garry James, who was thought to be better than Dalton Hilliard
However the most persistently touted has not yet been named:
R. Hobley.
