hat is crazy kid had offers for a lot of top schools and picked Houston.

At one time, Houston was a major player in a major confernece(Southwest). They are the chief football school in a metropolitan area of 5 million that is rich with big-time football talent. They are attempting to draw interest from the Big 12, figuring if they can become a major conference team again, with the right guys running the program they could be big-time again.

Good Luck Mr. Oliver.

Wish you were a Tiger but can understand wanting to stay close to home representing home city, having your brother as a teammate and playing for a coach you've already played for.

Good Luck!!

Tom Herman breaking more SEC hearts. I love it.

He will be the hot hire in about 3 years.

herman has almost nothing to do with this. its the brother and the former head coach. without either of them, oliver would be at LSU.

Herman has nothing to do with the brother already being on campus. But he did hire the coach, so he absolutely had something to do with this.

ETA: I'm not saying he hired him specifically to get Oliver. The coach probably has broader connections with a lot of other Texas HS coaches.

You sound bitter, but I'm sure he played a role but the point recruiting was done by other assistants (just like any other college football program out there).

Also, Houston just fired their head coach and their program has been wallowing. You don't think that the upward trejectory of the program which Herman has a huge role (coupled with new facilities, etc.) in this decision?

Pretty short sighted.

And Herman will be a huge hire in three years. Perhaps back to Ohio State.

We have Ed Alexander already and Shelvin for 2017. So we are in good shape. I am now hoping we can secure Glen Logan and Rashard Lawrence

Coach Herman is shutting the boarders down in Houston and you cant blame him

Yeah, but that's not why he went there. I've seen this too many times. He will still do good there, and that QB they have is a similar player to Trevone Boykin (QBs that Herman is very accustomed to).

Is there any reason why Houston hasn't been in consideration to join the Little 12? I mean they were pretty damn good in Sumlin's years, and Lord knows the conference needs more eyes and influence. Houston has a huge local area for recruiting and with the rap scene, it'll draw tons of top recruits if it ever won something of improtance.

I mean look at TCU and Baylor. Look what has happened for them the last few years. Herman might be the guy to get that school into the big leagues.

No kidding..

Jordan Elliot and Ed Oliver.. That's a vicious 1-2. Problem is will they manage to keep them till NSD.

Eric Monroe and McCulloch are the only two Houstoners I'm concerned with right now. Don't care for the other two.

Don't worry, they'll both drop to 3*s by virtue of choosing Houston.

Would have loved to see him at LSU, but it'll be fun watching UCF battle it out with these guys. Herman was an incredible hire for Houston.

The U wouldn't be the U if Howard Schnellenberger hadn't gotten the 1st stud from the city to sign. Oliver might be the kid that makes other Houston kids stay home and ultimately build a top program.

Or maybe the only reason he signed is his brother and former coach, while the other kids realize the major advantages in playing for a p5 conference school
