I think O is great at selling a major program as an assistant.. like USC and Miami. I also believe when established LSU recruits itself. I’m not highly impressed or disappointed. I think he is filling needs. I think most would complain about lack of quarterback.

I think it shows that they’re putting all their eggs in the foster/Rogers basket, which doesn’t appear to be working out so far. Wouldn’t surprise me to see a late offer go out to a 3 or 4* outside of Louisiana.

Fixed that for you.

The Orgeron die hards are gonna hate this. O being "the best recruiter in the world" is their main argument. Well besides, "he really wanted the job."

It may be time to cut our losses with Joseph.
They need a real WR coach anyways to coach these kids up, Dee Anderson was really pissed this season about not getting any playing time and talking about jumping ship I read somewhere. I don't know what his story is about what happened to him this year, but I hate seeing a talented player talking like that and not getting PT for whatever the reason may be.

“They got a little bit different athlete running around out there,” he said. “Look at their defensive linemen. Standing next to them, walking off the field, they don’t look like a lot of the guys we see. That’s the common trait.” - Chip Kelly, former Oregon Head Coach

This is what Chip Kelly said after we whooped that arse back in '11. Other than guys like Rashard and Davon, we haven't had these types of players the past few years.

That's changing. We comin'.

While we usually have access to more high profile recruits here in LA, take a look at what State has done the last 5-7 years. They have built very good offensive and defensive lines out of mostly 3 star players.

We used to be the standard, then it became be like Bama, and now it's be like State. State's a 4 loss program, we better not be aspiring to recruit like them.

This class was about beefing up the line of scrimmage. There are still big fish to be reeled in and it will look a lot better come February.

I actually love the class so far.

Chris Curry is signed and we will get Joiner and/or Williams.

..and Guice is staying for his senior year.

I'd take a highly rated recruiting class THAT fills needs as well.

Which may be 3rd or 4th best in the conference? When the bar is set so high, it's ok to aim high than blanket top 10, 15, 20, etc.

I am hoping we do finish strong so that we do finish top 10.

The problem is that by focusing so much on one or two position groups, you set yourself up for failure. This is what weakened recruiting classes under Miles too.

Also, people acting like LSU was just ignoring the OL and DL the past few years are either misinformed or its intent on saying whatever they have to defend Orgeron.

LSU’s issues at the OL are not because of lack of recruiting. They were about shitty development of OL and then the attrition it caused this year alone under O’s watch. LSU started the spring with 15 or more scholarship linemen. That is more than reasonable.

Grimes was just an overrated coach and O had issues convincing those guys to stay and instead let them leave or potentially ran them off.

You don’t have that type of attrition from one position group without it largely being due to the head coach and position coach.

There's some guys who are going to be a couple years away from contributing. Wire has excellent technique, but he is a little light. He has a frame to put on 40 to 50 more pounds. Reminds me of Tyson Jackson out of HS regarding his frame. Rosenthal is raw, but that dude is a MAN. He just runs past blockers that bounce off him. Still think he's a OL. I don't know what exactly he doesn't like. I mean, the class is ranked 12, 13, 14 but I've watched video on all these guys and they all are top notch recruits. You got to look at the players, not what a bunch of people think that don't coach players at the college level on a daily basis. It's not like LSU is taking these players by default, they selected these players to offer scholarships to because the players are good and have potential. Anyone who has seen Chris Curry play and don't think he will be a star at the college level doesn't know what they are looking at. He is as close to a Emmitt Smith clone as I have ever seen. won't outrun many people, but burst through the hole and is a beast to bring down. I like this class a lot, I think there's quite a few future college stars and NFL players in this class.

Second, I honestly believe, this class has a few underrated guys in it.

Provens and Sheffer have 4-star "film" - intangibles, too. Smith is a pure center - if a C/G, would grade at a 4-star, I'm fairly certain of that.

Curry is underrated where he's at. But every class of every school has situations like that or similar. It should come out in the wash, but there is no question we needed to focus on the OL and DL, there is no question we have, and there I no question we have a half dozen or so playmakers who have "it" - Travez Moore, Curry, Scott, plus projected members of the class Surtain, Marshall, Cook and Joiner (those last four would really be a strong finish.)

Hanny is correct but he wasn’t as critical as many here said he was.

This class isn’t done yet. We locked up a bunch of guys. If we get some or most of the big guys left on the board it will likely be a top 10 class.

So you can’t grade the class today.

That is true.

What is also true and what Hanny was basically saying is IF you hire an elite recruiter as HC and if Recruiting was the biggest plus he better recruit at an elite level—whether your name is Orgeron or Smith or Jones.

In addition, if you want your program to move up in your Conf or division you have to outrecruit the programs you play.

Again unfair to judge today. But his points are valid.
