Weight training and Ultrarunning

Anyone have experience trying to keep up both. I'm not talking about push ups and and air squats, but heavy lifts. I'm more concerned how to do it from a time management aspect.

Trying to do both simultaneously will affect the training of the other.

Macron deadlifts 500+ pounds and runs 50 mile races.
I’m pretty sure he’s able to do those because he’s a cyborg.

How often are you running? It seems like you’d be running hours every day for ultra training and that won’t leave any time to lift.

I do not see how one helps the other.
You said "heavy" when lifting. Knees have to go at some point.
And the calories required for both would be elephant like, Especially if you eat clean.

Look what Goggins and Hanes do. They lift relatively heavy.

I am doing this as we speak actually.
Training for a 50 miler in December and ramping up my running to hit a trail Marathon in August, 50k in October, and the 50 miler in December.
I love lifting weights and don't want to become super skinny, so doing a combination of endurance training with lifting. Also have a nutrition coach to ensure I am fueling correctly to handle the volume. Posting updates in the Hybrid Thread.
Here is where I am at now:
- Run ~36 miles per week with most recent long run at 18 miles
- Doing CrossFit 3-4x per week
- Most weeks I get this done by doing 2x workouts a day and long run on Saturday. Hold Friday and Sunday for rest days.
The only real challenge is having enough time to get the long run in on Saturday. This takes up several hours each Saturday morning so something I just need to work around the rest of the year.

I can never seem to keep the lifting going once my mileage gets to a certain point. Partly due to time, but also the thought it may mess up my ability to get a quality run in.
I've been working on a few lifting goals over the last few months and don't want to abandon it completely to train for a 50 miler.
Time management, like most people, is my biggest obstacle.

Only from a time budget perspective.

It is possible to get stronger and train for an ultra. However, there are some obvious tradeoffs when it comes to how much body weight you want to carry. I typically do deadlifts & squats early in the week to ensure leg recovery before a Saturday long run. You can also look at a 10 day training cycle vs the traditional 7 day. That would give you a bit more time for recovery. My running and overall health improved once I added heavy compound lifts. I typically cut back on lifting the last 6 weeks or so of a training cycle but I'm not sure that is even necessary.

This is what I'm going for. Having backed out of my first 100 miler due to injury. After months off I started heavy lifting and I feel about as healthy as I've felt in a while. Started peppering in runs every few days over the last few weeks and still feeling good.
NOLA 50 is 12 weeks out, so I'll continue to lift until I feel like it's holding me back. 4 weeks out may be a good cut off to back off on weights, but we'll see how it goes.

Nick Bare is prime example it can be done, just takes commitment and a bunch of calories.

Run in the am, weights in the pm. I usually run 1-1:30 hrs. 45 mins would be a long weight session for me. Eat round the clock.
