I could serve to lose 10 pounds, sure, but I'm more curious to see if all of the documentary hype is more than just hype. Will it detoxify, produce more energy, etc. Will try for 2 weeks. No meat or dairy.

Who here has any success or mixed results?

Why would any sane man give up bacon?

Never trust a man who doesn't eat bacon

Not sure about the effects, but you will turn into a giant douchelord and tell us all how wrong we are about eating animals.

Nah, not into telling others what to do in that respect. I love to eat animals.

My wife and I did it for about 6 months. It honestly felt great. Best I've ever felt. Get ready to take the absolute best shits of your life.

In all seriousness, I've done a few juice diets. I'll take 10 days to do nothing but raw veggie and fruit juices. I did this because I'm a straight carnivore and have trouble eating the other stuff. Makes me gag.

The worst was the surprise I got from eating a turnip juice. I went to the bathroom the next day and thought I'd shite blood.

You will seriously pee out of your butt for days.

You cannot "detoxify" or purify your blood, digestive system, aura, spirit, etc. You can achieve the same kind of health goals (weight loss and feeling good with more energy) with a nutritiously balanced diet and exercise.

If you want to eat only plants for moral or taste reasons, then do so. But don't go into it thinking that it's the best or only way to achieve your goals.

I will say that the best I've ever felt was when I ate mostly plants. Fresh vegetables and fruits and I limited all refined or process carbs (no flour products, added sugars, breads, cakes, etc). I also ate eggs and fish for protein and the occasional chicken.

I lost weight, felt great, slept well, and as someone mentioned, the bowels moved extremely efficiently.

So again, you can eat what you want (even nothing but Twinkies!) if you want to lose weight. You just have to stay under your calorie goal and expend more than you take in. (Note - Twinkie diet will make you feel awful leading to sedentary behaviors thus limiting your energy expenditure thus lowering your calorie limit)

I did it for lent for 40 days. I felt good energy and my running pace improved slightly (I was ramping up my running during this time anyway so that played a part as well)

This. All of this.

I have friends who are hardcore. They live in Austin though. Much easier to live vegan there. He ONLY cheats on the holidays.

Left me with appreciation for better things and not eating crap. I haven't had a burger from macdonalds in I don't know how long. If I'm gonna splurge on a burger its gonna be a burger.

I lost about 30 pounds and was not hungry. Toughest thing is meal prep and a personal life. Finding vegan options is tough at times. And you don't want to be the douche that makes everybody go eat Indian food all the time.

Besides the documentaries, I have read about the science in animal fat biology. It just seems very sound and normal to reduce many of the issues we have in our bodies. I figure 2 weeks isn't that much of a sacrifice to know if my body can feel better taking out what I absolutely know to be "bad diet". No way I'll ever be a vegetarian or vegan but figuring out the difference between two ways of living can't be a bad thing.

I recommend the Forks Over Knives cookbook for dinners you have time to prepare. For lunch keep it simple and make sure not to be scared of starches like potatoes or rice as they will keep you satisfied. I had a big bowl of rice and purple hull peas today. I take fruit and nuts for snacking. I also enjoy a breakfast smoothie daily.

Like others have said, your poops will be other worldly. Skin will look great, pounds will be shed, and you will feel energized. Your very best results will come from avoiding processed junk and sticking to real food.

If you're still in DFW, there's a plant based takery, Nature's Plate, off NW Highway just east of Audelia that has really good food and makes it easy.

This way of eating has kept me pain free and off biologic meds for an autoimmune inflammatory arthritis condition. It's the reason I started and what keeps me on it. I eat fish just often enough to keep me from identifying with those damn dirty vegans tho--maybe once a month.

I'm not a vegetarian but I do eat largely plant and grain based diet primarily for health motivations (unless I'm going out to eat for a decent meal. If I'm at a steakhouse I'm not getting a salad). I'm as lean and strong as I've ever been. If you're wantin to bulk it's probably not what you want but it won't hold you back. I don't have trouble making it work either. It's pretty easy to make a lot of quinoa or brown rice and then accompany it with stir fried vegetables. If you're wanting a meat/protein substitute that isn't tofu, which is the worst, they sell this chorizo seitan stuff I use that tastes astonishingly like ground beef.

Biggest thing to get people past. "Your gonna get fat eating all those carbs". Evidenced by the masses of fat asians.

A. You're gonna die from protein deficiency.

B. Starches make you fat.

The two biggest hurdles.

This was kind of my takeaway from my 40 days. I am not 100% vegan or vegetarian now but I do eat a lot less meat than I used too

That's not really an answer. Are you worried about the nitrates are one one of those people who still believe fats cause heart disease?

I'm just asking why it's so unhealthy.
