Its an addiction like any other. You just have to push through it. Don't beat yourself up too bad if you fall off the wagon, just try and do better in the future.

Get rid of softdrinks; all of them. Diet Cokes are the methadone of regular Cokes.

Drink copious amounts of water. If you need flavor in your drink, try something like Crystal Light or tea sweetened with Splenda. Only do this at meals. The rest is plain water.

Also, take all the candy/cookies/cakes/pies/sweet yum yums in your house, and throw that shite away.

quote:

Desserts!

Cakes, cookies, pies, ice cream, snowballs, pastries, etc. I feel like I need something sweet after every meal at night. I really don't drink many sodas. Maybe 1-2 per month at most.

If you just HAVE to have a sweet treat after a meal, get sugar free Jello and some sugar free whipped cream. Its not optimal but it should curb some of those cravings.

eta: Throw all that advice out the window for Thanksgiving. Enjoy yourself around the holidays as long as you control yourself the rest of the year. That's my motto. I once ate and entire rum cake at Christmas by myself, just because I could.

Say what? This sounds awesome.

I've got the same issue as the OP and many other people. I'm just mentally exhausted at night and my restraint is virtually non-existent. It's only at night for me. I can easily say no to treats all day everyday until nighttime.

That shake should do the trick though.

I use to have a problem with sugar. Every time I’d go to the grocery store I’d grab a snickers. Use to put 2-3 teaspoons in each cup of coffee. I hired a coach. If I don’t have someone tell me what to eat, I reason with myself that since I workout, I can eat whatever. I got tired of working out for 4-5 years and not seeing results.

Now the only sugar I intake is I buy it in packets and put a half of a packet in each cup of cofffee in the morning

I've been on McDonald's diet for about 2 years, during which I slowly lost weight to a point where I had to buy scales and measuring tape to monitor it.

i'm not saying that McDonalds diet will make you lose weight, but not I'm pretty sure what you eat has a much less impact that how much you eat. Voracious people will get fat on the healthiest of foods.

this is what I'm learning anyways

No Equal Splenda or saccharine. Monk fruit and stevia. Lankanto is a great brand for monk fruit (looks and tastes like granulated white sugar w zero glycemic index). Lilly’s chocolate is sweetened w only monk fruit stevia and erythritol (sugar alcohol zero glycemic index). Whole Earth is an excellent packet sweetener made of monk fruit and stevia. Do not use anything sugar free w dextrose - it has same glycemic index as table sugar.

Sugar is addicting! You have to break the cycle though. Once your body gets use to not having it the cravings will go away. It will be tough at first but you will feel so much better. When I want something sweet, I do an iced coffee with just black coffee, almond milk, and vanilla protein powder. A chocolate protein shake with peanut butter is also good. If you need something to actually “snack on” though, I would suggest fruit.

I quit sugar cold turkey. I had to. I was eating Little Debbie cakes and drinking a ton of sweet tea every day. I miss it like crazy and maybe once a week I’ll eat a scoop of peanut butter when the cravings flare up.
I think I actually went through withdrawals a few days after quitting

Wtf do you think honey is??

Look I stayed out of this thread for the lost part, but sugar is nothing like crack. Quit being a dumbass. It's not physically addicting.

And don't you fricking dare compare it to cocaine, don't you fricking dare insult that beautiful white powder from the gods like that!!!!

Don't buy anything sugary at the grocery store. There will be plenty of opportunities to eat sugary food outside.

I’m same way. Only thing that worked was eating Perfect Bars dark chocolate peanut butter cups. Holy shite they taste just like Reese’s. I eat one after each meal and don’t want anything else. Satisfying for that sweet craving.

I naturally like fruit over chocolate and candies. Yes fruit has sugar but it’s not bad like the sugar from sweets. Eat more fruits.

Sugar is sugar

What you probably mean is that the fruits are much more nutrient dense and also contain fiber, which slows the absorption of sugar. Therefore, fruit are better to eat pretty often while the sweets should be limited.

You’re absolutely correct. When my circle says sugar we typically are talking about added sugars and artificials. Should have been more clear.
