or significantly reduce my intake? For those who have successfully manage this, what tips are you able to give?

I'm 6'4", 204 lbs. I'm active working out about 4 days per week but I can't get rid of fat from my midsection. I believe a lot of it stems from how much sugar I eat on a daily basis.

There are great substitutes. What has sugar you like? For me:

Coke - switched to Coke Zero
Candy - switched to sugar-free candy
Snacking - nuts, fruit bars, etc
Coffee and tea - Splenda

There’s bad ingredients in a lot of food. Once you curb the initial desire, you can switch up your diet even more. Start slow. Don’t go cold turkey from sugars or fats.

Desserts!

Cakes, cookies, pies, ice cream, snowballs, pastries, etc. I feel like I need something sweet after every meal at night. I really don't drink many sodas. Maybe 1-2 per month at most.

Buy some Atkin's bars. They are sweet, but aren't full of sugar.

Drink more water during your meal. You'll feel fuller.

After dinner start with granola bars dipped in peanut butter. With a huge glass of water.

Then adjust to just a huge scoop of peanut butter with a huge glass of water.

Then just drink water when you feel the craving hit. You’ll drink a butt-ton starting out and be pissed you have to pee every night at 3 am

Most of those are sugar + fat and hyperpalatable, so it's not just sugar.

You needed to break the cycle. When you have a craving at night, stop and think about it. How are you feeling? Are you hungry? What sequence of events lead up to this moment? Why do you want the sweet stuff?

Eventually you'll learn a potential trigger and can try different things to replace the habit

Just fricking man up and stop. I switched to tea sweetened with Splenda or Stevia. Occasionally I’ll get something bad but it’s not often.

I’m 5-10 195 and my sugar intake is low. You have to add in some targeted cardio to lose the last bit: 30-45 min at 65-70% of your HR 3 days per week.

Are you talking strictly sugar or carbs in general?

Just quick taking it and drink water.

Do you put sugar in your coffee, tea or is it from drinking soft drinks?

Cakes, processed

pies, processed
ice cream, processed
snowballs, processed
pastries, processed

Eat some naturally occurring food man.

Find fruits that you like and tell yourself you can eat all you want.

I’m the same way. I’ve realized that I eat sugar to decompress. I’ve been great at eliminating sugar throughout the day but then I get home.

And I’m tired and there are kids to take care of, dishes to do, a dog that needs attention, dinner to make, lunches to be readied for the next day, and kids to bathe and put to bed.

And I’m done...finished...stressed and overwhelmed and overworked and I grab the sweets. Snacking throughout as I wait for the moment where I can finally relax.

I’m not sure what to do about it. It’s a struggle.

I’ve thought about readying a pound of bacon for the week and eating that in the evenings as a snack. Maybe that would work.

Are you a guy or one of my wife’s whiny friends I see on her Facebook page?

Sometimes after dinner if I have a craving for sweets, I make some sweet egg whites. Mix some egg whites with cinnamon and a little stevia and cook it in the pan.

Don't buy sweets. Easier to beat the cravings in the grocery store than it is when they're sitting in your pantry.
