Personal Trainer experience

Well I'm investing in my body. Had to buy new business shirts due to the neck tightening, and I say frick that. The only clothes I'm going to be buying are ones a size down. I'm probably about 15 pounds overweight, and am trying to develop muscle as well (I have almost none to speak of). 3 days a week for an hour.
What are some of yalls experiences with them?

Most of them spent a couple hundred on an online course and will tell you to eat rice and chicken 5 times a day
There's a few good ones but they're few and far between

Bodybuilding.com has all the info you need. They have free workout plans, meal plans, and they have videos for each move to show you proper form.

Or just ask for our help here

Only a few I would recommend and they are online. Skip hill (or his approved trainers) and Shawn Wolfe with Wolfe4lyfe are the only ones I know that take normal clients that aren't competing I would give a thumbs up too.
If you just need a program, get on avatar nutrition and the greyskull lp for lifting.

Do you have any experience with weight lifting? If you do, I will volunteer to give you a diet plan (calories and macro breakdown) as well as a workout program to follow for about 5 weeks before seeing where results go and seeing what you would want from there.
Disclaimer: I have no certifications, but I have had good progress in my experiences with myself and have done plans for buddies of mine who have all had good success as well.
ETA: as stated above you can take the exercises I give you and view the videos on how to do them on BB.com, I just don't want you to injure yourself doing a heavy compound movement

What about trainers with a degree? She's given me a diet plan... but I really like to drink. That's the issue with me, but I think she's given me a diet plan that I'm not totally willing to follow due to the booze. I'm just hoping to be Nathan from Ex Machina to be honest.

I feel disgusting helping an ole miss fan (I went to MS state and lsu) but what kind of degree is it?
The reason I ask is because my sister is a nutritionist but she says they mainly teach her medical diets and recomp. She can put together a fat loss diet but it won't be advanced as some online.
It's best to get a good base diet and practice good habits and not cut out everything at first. You have to give yourself wins. Going for broke will kick you out of a diet or workout regimen with the quickness.
Practice getting use to the uncomfortable feeling of weights or resistance first by doing push-ups, bodyweight squats and stretching. Cut the alcohol back a little bit or use hard liquor such as bourbon and use water or a diet drink to mix with.
Once you have done that and kept at it for awhile, start upping the difficulty and complexity of your program. We are here to help.
IMO a lot of trainers just try to use circuit training and weird exercises to make it seem like it's going to work faster but this is a life changing thing and hopefully not a quick fix.

We can train you here for free and do a better job than nearly every trainer.
1. Diet is 90% of the battle. Get the MyFitnessPal app and track your intake.
2. Drink at least a gallon of water throughout the day.
3. Gets your arse into the gym at least 4 days per week.
4. Moderate cardio in the early morning and some light cardio (walking) in the evening. (Optional)

This.
A trainer will ask you what you are doing in the gym and put you through the exact opposite to make it feel like what they are telling you to do is the missing piece so you might consider paying them.
You like lifting heavy shite for 4-8 reps? They are going to put you through a long assed endurance workout with 15-20 reps per set.
You like doing 15-20 reps per set? They are going to put you through a heavy weight, low rep workout.
Honestly, if you are thinking about hiring a trainer, just go ahead and join a Crossfit gym and their punch card system (10 classes for $100 usually). In the end, it'll be cheaper.

Read and research on your own. Find an online coach...Travis Mash is a good one. I think he has a "eat anything" program.

Really depends on his (the OP) experience level. nothing beats hands on instruction if he is a complete novice, even if it is just for a few weeks.

The problem, LE, is that you are forced into at least 10 sessions for $400+ with these trainers. Payment up front.

One unless they are crossfit powerlift certified or Olympic lifting or certified through starting strength they are waste to even teach technique.
I know thib has volunteered to help people with diet plans. I also am more than willing to help with macros but I'm not going to type out meal by meal. I'll give examples but not gonna spoon feed.
As far as lifting hu_fung has a compilation thread of programs many of have used with great success. Don't reinvent the wheel, your local personal trainer is not going to be able to create a program better than the best coaches in the world. I also have tons of other programs linked in my google drive in the putthaforkdown thread including 8 of the John meadows programs which cost 300 a pop. But for 90% of the board a version of the greyskull lp, mad cow/Texas method, 531, or reverse pyramid training is going to give the best results.
In other words OP, unless you are willing to commit to a very expensive online trainer, then you are better off posting your stats and letting us know how many days a week you can go to the gym or workout at home and what your goals are and we can help.
