Sure. And with my metabolism I'd look like an AIDS patient and wouldn't be able to bench my body weight. That wouldn't be very healthy.

No, you wouldnt. You'd be able to bench exactly what youre benching now.

Not sure how paleo could adversely affect working out as you can pretty much consume as much protein as you want....?

Sweet potatoes are definitely considered to be paleo, FYI.

I do a modified version as well. I'll occasionally have brown rice or a yogurt, but I eat mostly paleo. I definitely still need coffee though, and lots of it.

So why cut out dairy?

I mean technically we have no reason to consume lactose after infancy.

Thousands upon thousands of years of evolution didn't design our bodies to live off of the farming practices (harvesting cow's milk) developed over the relatively recent past. I don't do the paleo diet, but I can see where the reasoning at least makes logical sense. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but it makes sense.

yeah lets go back to a lifestyle where the average person lived to be 30 years old - makes perfect sense

Dairy was only really big once we domesticated cattle, and even then not all parts of the world used milk. Mostly caucasian populations.

Which is why lactose intolerance commonly develops in non-whites.

I just want to applaud the OT for a moment: page 2 on a Paleo thread and not a single knock on crossfit for no reason whatsoever.

Because that was totally due to the diet. Not lack of modern medicine and getting attacked by predators.

Has that honestly been a problem for humans in the last few millennia? It's not like a reduction in animal attacks would cause any sort of increase in the average lifespan of humans. Simply put, there aren't that many animal attacks to make it a factor in that calculation.

These people did not live long enough to get heart disease, etc. Eat what you want, just no seconds. Life is short, diets suck.

Agree. For those who are naturally skinny/have a fast metabolism, there is zero reason to cut out or drastically reduce carbs. I just make sure most of my carbs are low GI.

Aren't legumes generally on the "bad" list for this diet? What is wrong with them? I get limiting carbs overall, so I can see not overdoing it; however, legumes are relatively high in protein, fiber, and vitamins. It doesn't seem like a food source to put in the avoid column.

And yet evolution provided some populations with a post-infancy enzyme that allows them to digest lactose.

Yep. Eating pounds upon pounds of meat isn't healthy.

You're talking to the guy who told people to "enjoy their salmon" while he'd be eating his BK chicken fries.

Im cutting way back on red meat, sugar, gluten, and dairy, no soda except a ginger ale every 1-2 months. Not eliminating, but they will be exception vs. the rule. What ever diet that is called, I'm on it.
