I am convinced beyond doubt that he reached levels of golf never seen before or since. I think he's the most talented to ever play the sport, but I also think he will have sort of a tragic "what if" thing hanging over his legacy.

This isn't Len Bias.

Tiger still was the most dominant golfer of all time and legit revolutionized the sport.

Like Gary Player and Nicklaus a villain as he played by some but time will become more forgiving.

He won't be as beloved as Nicklaus or Trevino but he will be talked about in revered status.

It will all be a what if . Tiger was damn good and had a steak that was amazing but he hasn't done anything in a long time and probably never will again.

He was the greatest golfer of my lifetime. Jack's prime was a little before me.

While he won't be remembered as the greatest ever, he will go down as the most dominant golfer of all time when in his prime.

he put golf on the map. Of not for him, it wouldnt get the ratings it does. Nobody would know who Rory or Spieth were if not for Tiger.

Anyone who doesn't have him at number 2 (at least) is crazy.

Second most majors of all time. And by far the most successful week to week golfer ever (more wins than Nicklaus on the PGA, more combined wins than anyone ever).

11 total 2nds in majors. Just the 6 at the one he's missing.

Those who underrate Phil miss just how deep his major resume is. Only Javk has more 2nds. Only Jack and Tiger have more total top 3s

Jack had a better career (only arguably however, as Tiger has more professional and amateur wins) due to longevity.

Tiger is the most dominant and talented golfer ever. Win %, total wins, and scoring average (nominal and also relative to rest of PGA) say so

Anyone that has Tiger lower than #2 all time should start following another sport.

Are you high?

The WORST you could rank him is 2.

2nd most majors ever
79 PGA tour wins, 2nd all time. More than Jack, and Sneads total includes a couple of really questionable wins... 4 ball tournaments; events that wouldn't be counted in today's game.

He had the greatest ever Masters performance, setting the scoring record and winning by 12
He had the greatest ever US Open Performance (15 shot win, -12, no one else in the field broke par), set the all time scoring record in relation to par
The very next major, he won by 8 shots at St Andrews and set the all time scoring record in relation to par
Then the major after that, he shot -19 and set the scoring record in relation to par.

Then he won the Masters the next year.

Tiger Woods is golf's Secretariat.

He's not gonna break Jack's major total, so you can argue that, but but Tiger played at a level never seen before and likely never to be seen again.

BTW... I was never a TW fan, but you can't doubt his greatness.
