On a weighted scale, I'll go with Sephiroth. People hype this dude up because he has a cool sword and walked through fire the one time, but good God is he a whiney little bitch boy.

Problem the cast of Tales of Symphonia 1 and 2. I don't think I liked any of the characters at all (Raine and Sheena were ok, that's about it).

I didn't mind him, but I get the hate. They made him TOO green and whiny. I'm an oddball where I love the MGS series but I'm not the biggest fan of Snake, so playing as Raiden didn't bother me too much. It was all about the stealth and goofy interactions.

Pokémon Sun and Moon just polevaulted over the worst with Hau, who is the single most annoying character ever made. There's a point in the story where one of the main character's mother is apparently sucked into hell before them, and he's all sunshine and daisies to her when that is going on.
Give us a real rival like Blue or Silver, not this pansy who seems to suffer from a heavy case of Down Syndrome and to be well overmedicated on painkillers to be oblivious to anything but eating.

I thought about this being my answer, but I liked Reimi, Myuria, and Arumat. Well, I didn't love them, but I didn't dislike them at least.
