because that's totally the same thing as, you know, actually being able to use it

I don't think yall understand just how common all this shite becomes. eventually every weapon is firey, electric, icey, etc etc. you will have 4 fire swords and eventually not even care , there's always another one nearby

I took a picture of a treasure chest and now I can't walk 30 ft without my sensor going crazy.

Well yeah, don't do that

They replace RPG/adventure dumb fetch quests with a living world where you can actually go hunt for something specific that you want. I think it's incredibly smart.
Would you rather hunt for 10 tomatoes or 4 Fire Swords?
This is why the game doesn't have "Question completion syndrome" like most games of its type.

This is the only concession you will get from me. Take it or leave it.

The weapon system turned me off big time at first but it eventually clicked and I didn't even think about it anymore.
It was soon after that I couldn't hold enough weapons even after spending the most korok seeds on weapon holding limit.

Yeah, the weapon deal eventually goes away. The main pain of it is at the beginning when you're fighting with skeleton arms and sticks, and then you get a real weapon... then it breaks and you're back to fighting with skeleton arms and sticks, which is just painful. Eventually I was dropping Royal Claymores out of my inventory because I would find another Royal Broadsword for sword and board vs. 2hand. Of course, that feels weird too.
"Hmmm.. I guess I'll just throw this Flaming Greatblade down on the ground here, because I'd rather have the Frostspear in my inventory."

I didn't realize that was a thing either. My Sheikah sensor has only been for shrines. I'm glad I read this thread. I've had the game for a couple of months now, and I'm always thinking about when I'll be able to play it again. With a wife and 15 month old, it's usually only a few hours a week, but I guess that keeps the game fresh for me.
My one complaint is not durability, but the size of the inventory. I understand that I need to find the Korok guy again to get more space, but he has not turned up, and I've beaten 3/4 devine beasts. I ended up looking up where he is, and he just happens to be in the 2 of the 3 areas I haven't uncovered. I went to Zora, then decided to go clockwise around the map on whim. So, I still haven't uncovered the center or northeast parts. Korok guy is nowhere. That's a pretty annoying feature. If I didn't look it up, I'd be getting pretty frustrated at the uselessness of these Korok seeds. He should be in every town just like the statues to turn in spirit orbs.
Even though I've beaten 3/4 of the devine beasts, I still feel like I'm not very far into the game, which I like a lot. I think I'm pretty weak, and still terrified when I notice a Lynel. I've yet to try to kill one. I guess I can see why some might not get into it, but I love the random exploration of it. I've spent my last 3-4 sit downs just running around Hebra mountains. I'm not even sure it's necessary to the game at all, but it's just a joy to have so much space to explore.

Go look for him at the Woodland Stable. If he's not there, go to the Korok Forest. He's there for sure.

I know where he is because I looked it up due to being so frustrated with not finding him. My point is that adding space to your inventory is pretty important. I should have happened upon him by now. I have 3-4 areas I haven't explored yet. I've defeated 3/4 of the "bosses". I understand it's a huge game, so there are plenty of areas I've uncovered that I haven't fully explored. For that reason, he should be in more places.
I wanted to add that I haven't uncovered the area that the korok forest is in yet.

You can, obviously, play the game however you want. That's the beauty of it. My son is playing the game similar to how you're playing it in that he's just wandering around and questing and doing Divine Beasts as he comes up on them. I, on the other hand, went and unlocked every single tower and the whole map before I ever tried to take on a Divine Beast. That's just me, though. I couldn't stand having all those big blank spaces on the map.

wow. some of those towers were real pains in the arse

I'm at 82 shrines now as well.
I did go ahead and beat the game before launching back into hunting out shrines and completing side quests.

When I played my first run through I did all the major quest lines and just randomly opened the map as I got somewhere. I wound up not finding the korok seed guy in the forest like he was supposed to be because I never went back to him in the first place after my initial visit
This time I'm ignoring all the quests and focusing on shite I didn't do the first time I played...finding memories and taking pictures of things and unlocking the entire map before I even think about doing the main story.
I've been playing in whatever mode it is that turns off the mini map and notifications etc...Still had no clue there was a way to take a picture of something and go out in search of it.

That was my original plan after beating the Zora beast. I thought I would unlock everything then get back to the main story. Then, I started worrying that I would forget different things I noticed that I wanted to explore. Before I knew it, I was doing the Gerudo story. So, I've just decided that I'm going to complete as much as I can in an area before moving on. I'm sure I'm only doing about 40% of the quests per map area, though.

Somewhat new to the game as well, maybe 3 or 4 months since I bought it and started playing. Glad I'm not the only one late to the party
I dont know if this was for everyone, but there was definitely a part where
1. I had only unlocked about 4 or 5 towers
2. didnt really have any direction or quests outstanding pointing me in any 1 direction
3. I was still a bit too underpowered to push through to the next region
there's this small window where I got just frustrated and lost. Once you just suck it up, with some luck the rest of the story just flows, dont be surprised when you find yourself there.
the rain sucks something awful and the frequency it rains will make you scream
Not a fan of the durability crap either, it takes away from the gameplay. It wouldnt be so annoying if there were more single hand weapons. But my inventory always seems overstocked with really cool powerful double handed weapons.
