Most "Skill":
Good RTS games (SC2 comes to mind) or fighting games with a lot of depth (Marvel vs Capcom)

Least "Skill":
Hmmm, probably FPS games on a console. Maybe MMO's if you consider that gear>skill in most of the popular ones.

this argument is stupid. i have no idea what games take the most skill. i'll assume button mashing, combo fighting games do since that's the favorite answer around around here.

this will turn into a BF3 vs MW3 argument. One i don't care to participate in, because I'm not a fan of either at the moment and ultimately don't believe for a split second BF3 takes more talent than MW3.

here's why:

Pevy is the God of COD on here and against just about any level of talent.

If Pevy devoted a month to playing BF3. He would run the leaderboards on PS3 or Xbox around here.

So I agree with RTS games and to a lesser extent fighting games taking the most skill.

Least skill to me has to be RPGs, and it's not even close.

actually you are correct, I love my RPG games, but "turn based RPGs" are easily some of the skill-less games, you can almost always become "god-like" in these games, way to easily.

Normal non-turn base RPGs aren't always easy though: see Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Skyrim etc.

Definitely.

The real joke here, is people who have 0 cred on this forum stating fps games take no skill

so lets just laugh at them.

Just curious what everyone's opinions on this are. Which type of games take the most skill? the least? Are there any specific games without genre's that take more skill than usual?
I don't have a clue. I don't really play a wide variety of games, but I guess I can put it in a one game focus.

I play BF3 and I think the people who can fly a helicopter, aim and shoot people on the ground and in the sky at the same time are very skilled. It's skillful because the player is controlling everything about the vehicle.

Fighting games, I don't know...I would equate that to timing. Like in a baseball game.

Truth be told, every racing game (on authentic settings) I've tried I've failed pretty bad at. So I would go with racing games without the training wheels.

I wouldn't say that FPSs take 0 skill because FPSs show up a the MLG every single year. I still think it takes less skill to be a skill player in an FPS than it does in an RTS or Capcom vs. Street Fighter type game.

Yeah, I was mostly thinking of e-sports type games. Single player games don't tend to require a lot of skill past a certain point, so I didn't really consider RPG's or the like.

well that's your opinion and without any type of quantitative metrics it would be impossible to argue effectively.

I find situational awareness and accuracy on fps to be a good indicator of a players skill, there is a wide spectrum with a lot of variance

to gauge skill on rts or fighters, obviously winning is important, and the extent in which you micromanage your units (rts), how quick you execute a build order (rts), split second reaction time and combination memorization/execution for fighters

Both just take different types of skill

Of course not, but then again I've never heard someone say "Good God is was so irritating getting my arse handed to me by that dumb arse loud mouth 14 year old last night on Starcraft 2" ... just doesn't happen. I hear this kinda stuff about FPSs all the time.

I think he's trying to point the 2nd one out in general. It was a harder game then the 3rd one.

Hmm... I got plenty pissed losing to kids on battle.net with starcraft1, Warcraft 2 . Just didn't have a forum to vent on at the time

once you find a solid build order and learn how to hotkey your units so you can bounce across the map quickly... It certainly helps. Also micromanaging so your units are executing attacks and not running around aimlessly, because you selected all 12 soldiers to attack one enemy unit .

all three are easy to play, difficult to master.

We were the 14 year old's back then, playing other 14 year olds.

(at least I was, I don't remember ever playing someone over the age of 18 back then on games like these)

ETA: Who am I kidding, I still suck at FTS games...
