It's funny to see how a lot of that played out. I was looking through old posts of mine because I was bored. I found one where I said I will probably get a ps4 if the $400 rumor was true because I was years away from building a pc.

Man, we're almost at 500 pages in this thread. That's pretty good for less than a year of posts

How do you communicate with people when you play? Didn't you say your pc was in your bedroom, I figure you can't use the mic much at night
Posted on 11/8/13 at 12:44 am to Mr Gardoki
My wife sleeps in the same room with the TV on (I turn it off before I go to sleep), but she can sleep through it, as long as I use a normal conversational volume.

I need a mic if Im going to keep playing online But I would have to whisper at night probably. That's my only issue.

in the future, IDK if I will do it again. Probably will just buy a closed loop system then put that in a Push/Pull config.
Holy fckk, I said that? lmao Awesome.
At the time I have never watercooled GPUs before, just my CPU. I just thought it was too much work for not much benefit. Need to say, when you put GPUs under water is when you really enjoy a water cooled set up.
EDT: Funny to look at old builds. I used to leave stickers and decals on stuff. I take all that shtt off now. lol

I found a thread about a year ago between me and you discussing intel integrated graphics and their capabilities because I was looking for a laptop that could play some games. Surprisingly funny to look through old threads.

For you guys the community has changed a lot over the year but your passion is probably the same. My knowledge and interests have changed a lot I would say
eta: Microsoft promises to bring more games to neglected pc users
While they have to prove it and not just say it, I would like to thank valve for lighting a fire under microsoft's arse.

So I made a purchase the other day. Nothing big but a decent enough upgrade.
My HD configuration was as follows
Vertex2 55GB (OS)
Vertex4 128GB
HyperX 3K 120GB
Intel 520 Series 120GB (Bought a display model Switch 810 at Fry's and they forgot to remove this little jewel)
2 older 500GB Seagate drives
I ran across a GREAT deal at a local store on WD Black 1TB drives. 7200RPM 64MBs. $70 a pop so I bought 2.
Now I am running:
HyperX 3K 120GB (OS)
Vertex4 128GB
(2) WD Black 1TB in RAID1
Intel 120GB
I'm throwing the Vertex2 and the 2 500GB drives into a new build for my GF.
I always kept ONLY my OS on the Vertex2 since it was so small but I wanted to sort of consolidate the number of drives I had so I swapped it to the HyperX. I didn't expect a huge gain in performance since they're both SSD but wow, it helped

The thing with this hobby is the landscape rapidly changes at times. Always fun learning new technologies that are coming 3-4yrs down the road. I remember having my 8800GTX and hearing about CUDA and Kepler. Then during the GTX280 days hearing about Maxwell.
I can even remember saying that CUDA and Kepler will "change the world". lmao
That is what makes this hobby so interesting and fun. We always see what is on the horizon before the average consumer or gamer.

The Vertex series are some of the best SSDs. OCZ was a legit memory company a few years ago but now I read they are going under.
Something like 30mil in the hole. They have already basically been bought out and will be turned over next year.

I would have used the Vertex 4 for the OS, but the difference would be marginal at best. The Vertex 3/4 use a completely different controller than 1/2. Before Samsung 830 Pros, Vertex 3 and 4 had been the fastest SSDs on the market and still beat them in some tests.
My main rig's OS is on a 256 Vertex 4 and the MBP im typing on now has a 128 Vertex 3.

Since you hate AMD you should read this about the retail vs press 290 and 290x cards. I love the budget and value AMD gives you but I have to question them sometimes.

I considered it, but I've had the Vertex in there for almost 9 months longer. I know it is unlikely that either will crap out anytime soon but I just wanted the peace of mind. I'm weird like that

Oh yeah they're great. I love mine. That Vertex2 has been a CHAMP since I bought it in (I believe) 2009.

Maybe for a little but the cliche cheese of "crossing the rubicon" is well.. i need to leave it. lol

I dont hate AMD, I owned AMD in the past and was pro-AMD before Fermi.
That is a great article though and something we all knew. Reason why this gimmick Mantle wont take off. Not only are does the company have quaility issues on the hardware side but let us not get started on software/drivers. They are spread too thin and need to focus efforts on what they do best.
They are a company 1/3 the size of nVidia trying to do nVidia type shtt and other things at the same time. It is always hard to do more with less. in time quality then suffers.

No you are right. That is the perfect reason.

It is a blast. My grandfather was an engineer at IBM for like 20 years or something so I've always been around it.
Things I remember peeing my pants with excitement about:
1) CD Burners - First kid at school to have one. I could burn a 20-song CD in an hour...after I spent 20-30 minutes per song downloading them.
2) 4X CD burners - 15-minutes?
3) Going from 56k to DSL - "You mean it won't take 5 minutes to load noodz?!?!?!" First kid on the block to get DSL. Friends wanted to visit more frequently
4) "Laser mice"
5) Going from having a game on 10 3.5" disks to CDs
6) Windows ME - My grandad installed this for me while I was at school one day. I was so pumped when I got home. It came with Plus! (another 'remember when' :lol) and had a Peanuts background. The characters would wink and wave sporadically. I thought that was so cool.

This is why I hopped off of that train.

Awesome man.
My Grandfather was also the person who gave me an interest in computers.
