cool. Aida is a paid program but they give you a 30 day trial.

Are any new graphics cards going to be released soon? Curious to know if crossfireing my 7870 would be worth it.

AMD 9000 series is being unveiled next month. They'll be new releases and likely expensive, but they'll certainly be the latest and greatest.

Is nvidia supposed to release maxwell early 2014?

Maybe...
I highly recommend getting the monitor first before deciding to crossfire.

Because even a single 7970 on 1440p can give you excellent frame rate and decently high settings in most games. Crossfired 7970s at 1080p would just be a waste. Is there a particular game that's giving you performance issues?

None at all. I'm just impatient. I already started looking at my next build. I'm a whore.

So crossfire for a bit would be worth it until the price drop?
Do you need a second monitor to crossfire? Why?

Only if you are greatly dissatisfied with the performance your 7870 is providing. It would be an easy, cost-effective performance boost. Another option would be to sell your current 7870 and get a 7970 for around $300. In case you're wondering, however, 2 7870s > 1 7970.

No, you don't. I was suggesting Lew upgrade to a 1440p monitor as his primary gaming monitor or else the crossfired 7970s would be a waste. Even you could do 1440p with crossfired 7870s.

What would be your whore budget for your next whore build, whore?

Perfect. That is what I needed to know. I am satisfied to the max, but if running two could spare me some time and $$$ I wanna go that route.

I have been thinking about running crossfire 7870's also
Posted on 8/19/13 at 2:53 pm to ILikeLSUToo
so from the direction this thread has gone, I'm guessing running 2 crossfire'd 7950s at 1080p is a perfect setup right?
kidding of course...
p.s: I hate every single one of you for making me feel like my 1080p monitor is already a piece...

i would like to jump on that bandwagon too. i have been gaming at 1080 for only 5 months and already feel inadequate.

Just keep in mind that while the latest AMD drivers have substantially improved crossfire performance, it's not quite a "set it and forget it" experience. Some games don't properly scale crossfire (meaning, it will use a low percentage of both GPUs instead of optimizing the use of both), and some don't work with crossfire at all. It's becoming less frequent nowadays, but can still be a problem with the occasional shitty port. RadeonPro works wonders in those cases.
Also, make sure you have the PSU power for a second one, and of course you have to use a crossfire bridge (probably came with your first card).
I also recommend completely uninstalling and reinstalling your AMD drivers after you put in the second card.

seriously, these tools.. I swear
I have a 7950, which I was told would be "great for 1080p," yeah ok, that's all great and well, until you decided to come into this thread, now we have crossfire'd 2 7970, haha, you poor.
