I bet Amazon would've sent him the IPS at no additional charge, though. Not that Amazon represents the industry standard in customer service (they do more than typical), but they sure do make places like Newegg obsolete for me.

ILikeLSU, is it possible to have a setup where you have 3 SSDs and 3HDDs where the SSDs and HDDs are separate, but in Raid0?

Like say I found 3 240GB SSDs for $210 total and 3 3TB HDDs for $240 total and wanted to have a little file server but have two drives ie was as say E:/ and one as F:/ ?

Seems illogical, I know, but I saw a deal on some SSDs and it made me think about it.

Oh and my BenQ 60hz monitor is amazing. I hooked my Xbox up to it to try out the input lag and it is so noticeable coming from my big TV.

The speakers suck on it, but I have a headset to take care of that.

Also, elgato released a brand new capture card this week. It is an internal one too and it'll set you back $200.

No clue on if it is better than the $150 Avermedia one.

What chipset/motherboard? Look up whether it'll support two raid arrays.

However, raid 0 is a very bad idea for a file server, or really any situation where losing all the data without warning would be more than a minor inconvenience.

I was just curious if it was possible. What would be the best thing to do? I know if I want to do video editing I will need a lot of space. I just don't know how much.

LINK

This is all I currently have. That Ram may have been a bad choice, but I bought it off Amazon for $70 when it was on sale.

I don't have any core components, also a CM Hyper 212 will not fit in that case without removing the acrylic window.

I will be using this PC for streaming, gaming, video editing, Photoshop etc. I want this to be my starter PC though, and eventually just be a dedicated Streaming PC.

Core parts, I don't really know. I want a 4970k and GTX 970, I don't mind paying the 650$ for those parts

so thanks for all the help guys. My build is up and running. I run Witcher 3 at Ultra settings w/hairworks, at ultrawide at 60 FPS, I can't wait to get an ultrawide gsync monitor with a higher refresh rate. One problem though. My boot drive is a pcie m.2 ssd. and my mobo spontaneously stopped recognizing it. Is there anything I can do? Ive read some stuff about running recovery but Im not 100%, I really hope the ssd isnt dead and I just need to replug it in or run a recovery process. This thing is blistering fast to boot and I pretty much have zero loading times in the games ive stored on it (TW3, gta5, skyrim, fc4 etc...)

I would recommend anyone reading this thread to buy an ultrawide monitor. You can get a decent lg 29 inch (24 inch equivalent 16:9) for about 200 on sales nowadays. It is really a game changer with the increased FOV.

If you want every bit of space out of the hard drives, the best thing is to use one volume per drive. If you use spanned volumes in Windows, or RAID 0, then the failure of one hard drive means the loss of all data on every drive in that array or span.

If you want redundancy, RAID 5 would be good for three drives, but you'd lose a third of your space for parity info. It means one drive can fail and you'll still have all your data. Two drives failing = bye bye all data. Any RAID array I'd be comfortable with for data I cared about would involve the loss of storage capacity.

Has everyone here upgraded to Windows 10 or are most of you still running 7/8? I upgraded without giving it much thought, but I'm thinking of going back to 8.1 if I can. If I download 8.1 and do a clean install, will that work?

If any of you are running 10, are you happy with it?

I have 10. Did a straight upgrade from 8.1. I like it. The only complaint I have is related to compatibility bug with nvidia drivers. Seems to make start menu icons disappear after playing certain full-screen games. Happens once every few days. The solution is to restart or log off and on. Other than that, it's fine for me.

Hey guys!

How is everyone doing?

AMD owners are still 2nd rate citizens.

Yes, this bug is annoying. I shut down my PC the task manager every day.

Didn't AMD just have a big guy step down?

About a year ago the CEO stepped down and the COO stepped up. Not sure how it's affected the bottom line in the past year, but Read (former CEO) was only in that position for 3 years, and the new chick had only been COO for a short while. Pretty sure Read was the first to get AMD out of the financial red since they acquired ATI.

Ilike, what's your thoughts on going from my two 780ti's for a Titan X to run two 1440p monitors?

Well, consider that a 980 Ti is literally 95%+ of the Titan X's performance for like 60% of the price. You could nearly get two 980 Ti's for what you'd spend on a Titan X. Also, going from SLI 780 Ti's to a single Titan X or 980 Ti would probably be a bit of a downgrade in performance in a lot of games unless you go 4K, or a lateral move at best.

I'm about to take the 10 plunge, I am assuming you did a fresh install vs the upgrade

I did the upgrade. It takes a long time for me to set everything up how I like it again. Remember that when people recommend a fresh install, their logic is based on the habits of an average user, a scenario in which one has accumulated years of OS clutter. That's the primary and perhaps only drawback of an upgrade; it ports the entire condition of your virtual workspace, be it pristine or decrepit.

In my case, I do have a ton of installed programs and background processes, but I have them because I've chosen to have them. I'd hope you are just as aware of everything you've installed, downloaded, or otherwise permitted to exist within your workspace.

If I can't find a fix for this HDD thing I am going back to 7.

BIOS see's it, tried to reassign drive letter but windows doesn't recognize it.
