I've encountered this. A personal side quest was closed because I advanced story. Really no warning that this particular story mission would cut off things either, so utilize save points before story missions

Well, bad news. I seem to have ran into a big time game breaking bug and apparently I'm not the only one.
In the first main story quest with Triss where you follow her around Novigrad I'm in the cellar of some guys shop and ty way to get out is to find a switch to a secret passage which is a brick sticking out of a pillar. It won't let me interact with it at all. You've can't leave any other way.
I guess I just have to pray that they fix it because until then I'm stuck.
I've googled it and apparently a lot of others are experiencing the same. I only kept my one save file, which was pretty dumb of me I suppose, but it seems that this bug would have been there regardless from what I've read.
Be wary.

You should still keep multiple saves. If the quest is optional you can either skip and come back or if it is required, just do side quests and other stuff till fixed.
Hope they fix it for you.

Is there a store in Velon or White Orchard that just sells all the herbs/plants and such? I don't really want to hunt them all down.

No one merchant sells all herbs from what I've seen. I need balisse(?) fruit seeds for a potion and no one I've found sells them

I believe the guy that buys your monster trophies has the best alchemy selection. He's right outside of Norvigrad, to the east.

And can someone tell me if there is any way to remove oil from a blade? I thought the spectre oil would wear off pretty quickly, but it's still there and won't allow me to put any other oils on the blade.
Is it supposed to just dissipate over time?

Do you have that Fixative skill? Makes oils not wear off or take longer.

Not yet. I just read that it should wear off after "a few swings/hits".

That's strange, because I wasn't done with an oil last night but it still let me replace it with another one.

I tried, but when I went through the map I ended up landing in the water just beside the boat I was trying to take. Instadeath. It happened during the rat tower side mission with the magic lamp.

Have you tried dying to reset to an earlier portion? It will likely create a new instance of the cellar as well.

I forgot to bone Keira..so I went back and sexed her then she put a sleeping spell on me and ran off to the tower

The earliest reset I had was after the first checkpoint of the mission which was across the city. No change. I tried a hard reset to my system as well.
