I agree that it is easy to become powerful, but increasing the challenge is as simple as role playing and restricting your character from using certain skills/trainers, etc. The freedom of Bethesda games, particularly TES games with their skill increase on use mechanics, will always allow for power gaming strategies.

if were able to get the monster mods, it makes the game a lot harder.

On vanilla, you can literally walk from Solitude to Windhelm and maybe, have a bear attack you. Day or night.

With the monster mods, u really don't want to walk around at night, unless u can handle urself.

What is wrong with the keyboard on the Bethesda.net login? It bugs out when I try to switch to capital letters.

My favorite character I ever made was a heavy armor Destruction mage. With enchanting and blacksmithing, I would take next to no damage and destruction spells cost 0 mana.. It was OP af

I have Skyrim on pc, Def not going to buy this special edition.

Went one handed melee last night. 2 handed just takes too many hits. How do you cast spells? I want to try magic.

If you've learned the spell just equip it along with your one handed weapon, and it's the other trigger if you're using a controller. I usually will take some swipes, magic magic, then swipes again.

You equip spells to L or R hand just like a weapon, and can use both spells and weapons in combat. For some spells, there are special features if you use both hands to cast the same spell at the same time. The initial destruction spells are kinda like flamethrowers. Later on, you can learn fireball type spells.

You learn spells from reading books that you buy or find in dungeons. Unlike previous games, you cannot make custom spells.

Do you own the DLC for skyrim? If so, then you get Skyrim SE for free.

Anyone who owned Skyrim+ 3 dlc, get the Skyrim SE edition on pc for free.

Downloaded the alternate start mod. Started in the theives guild. All they give you is some armor and a steel knife. could barley make it out of the sewers.

I remember am alt start that puts you in a farm , working for your first sword. Not bad, really. Right next door to the dark fricking brotherhood too.

What is a fun way to play? Melee is brutal
As far as effectiveness, being a hunter/rogue/bowman is the best way to go. Bows are awesome and the late game skills for assassination with daggers are ridiculously op.

First time I played through I went sword and shield.

Every time since it's been some type of stealth/assassin/archer/mage.

I always think I'll play it differently, but I always revert back to this.

Same. I just enjoy sniping someone with a bow from across the room or stabbing them in the back while invisible so much.

I'm gonna try to throw some other illusion magic in there though.

Become the Night Angel.

You'll never change.

I find myself going for towards the 1 handed melee character. I do like the shield bash.

When I first started playing it, I had a shield all the time. Once I discovered the magic/one handed combo, I never looked back. Perhaps I need to go back to the shield to freshen things up.

I tried to make a mage character, but he was awful in combat. I downloaded a race mod and made a Chiss 2H fighter character who wrecks face.

My first character was mainly one hand/magic but really did a little of everything. Since then, I've played a Breton mage, who was awesome once he got the perk that gives destruction spells knockback. Summoning two dremoras and pelting enemies with spells was great. I also played a Bosmer archer, but that was far too easy.

For the special edition, I'm playing an Imperial knight, with mace, shield and heavy armor. He also uses restoration and alchemy, but I'm trying to limit the use of any other school.
