Microsoft can claim they're pushing the industry forward, but they didn't really make a mention of being able to run sales similar to steam. It was implied, but they were too afraid and/or unable to communicate their intentions with the new model.

When you're making drastic changes to a model that has stood for years, you need to be able to communicate it.

Then on top of that, they're doing other dumb shite like blowing up Titanfall and bragging about it like it's a console exclusive.

Only the ones that like paying inflated game prices.

Speaking of which:
Saints Row IV $50 on steam
Saints Row IV $60 on consoles

It seemed like a lot of people here were saying that the system was good because it would lead the way to lower game prices by cutting out the used game market and the middle man.

I was saying that as was the Xbox engineer that leaked some of the details. The news today doesn't change the truth in that statement.

There is a thriving gaming market where this is very true actually.

Is there anyway we can blame EA for this? If so, frick EA!!

If not, I am really disappointed anyway. I was looking forward to being able to have everything done on the box. I was hoping the steam concept would work, but obviously the stupid masses ruin everything. This whole thing reminds me of when 4chan trolled Bieber fans with cutting themselves in protest, "Hey look let us protest microsoft because they have done something to cause strife in a few peoples lives. This will not effect me at all, but I must white knight for the good of my brother consumers because Microsoft is a big company telling me what I have to have."

name 1 enormous coporation who hasn't. and i'll name 25 who have.

I still stand by the fact that the Steam Model is still possible for the Xbox One and would have been later down the road with or without today's change in policy.

either way, you're waiting on the masses to accept change.

It takes time. They would have to show the devs the benefit of the One's DRM policy which would have led to less used game sales.

No way they could have committed to it out of the box without knowing 100% what the numbers would do and if those numbers would have been enough to get publishers on board.

I don't see why anyone thought this would all happen overnight.

Additionally, if consoles now have the option of remaining permanently offline, even when playing (single player) games, how will Microsoft harness the "power of the cloud" in their games?

I don't expect anything to happen over night, or for the next couple years, but if they were able to explain their thought process a bit it would have gone a long way to decrease the public outcry.

Instead it was just, we have DRM, you have to connect every 24 hours, games must be installed on consoles, all while Sony is sitting back saying, well we aren't changing any of the things you love about consoles and we're also 100 bucks cheaper.

Maybe the cloud is only used for online multiplayer games? Just a guess, I really don't know much about it.

ETA:

the ones who aren't connected to Live or have live accounts won't have that perk along with several other perks of paying for online service.

This could be true as well.

I remember reading something about them using the cloud to process parts of the game so the console wouldn't be forced to do it all. I could be wrong though. I figured it implied SP games.
