These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One," Mattrick noted. "The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold."

Might be the nail in the coffin for "Family Plan" or whatever....and more focus on digital downloads

Nah, I think Microsoft was going about it the wrong way. The change should be organic, not forced upon by a Microsoft

This would have worked for them IF they had done a better job communicating from the beginning. Hold a company wide picnic at Bill's house and explain what they were going to tell the soncumers

I 100% disagree.

I liked what MS was doing.

There's almost no going back for MS now, which sucks because in the long run, this was it. Do they wait for the NEXT console? I won't tag along.

In addition to being available in retail stores, Xbox One games will still be available for download on day one and will be playable on any Xbox One console.

I will never buy another disc.

I agree, but I think they would have successfully forced it on xbox. Obviously they haven't been able to force windows 8 on pc users.

Related to the organic change... I hope they keep some version of that family share stuff so that downloaded games aren't actually at a disadvantage to discs.

Yes it is done. See this line also.

Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray

Anyone else feel like the family share plan and accessing your games from any xbone was worth the used game policy and 24 hour check in?

I'm bummed out by the news today.

A fantastic feature that is gone now because of the squeaky wheel getting the grease.

It was fantastic but almost too so. I still find it hard to believe it was a cut and dry as one person buys the game, 10 others can play it for free. What publisher would go for that, especially those that do strictly SP games?

I don't understand why everyone is saying we can just kiss the possible Microsoft Steam Model goodbye.

We all know digital downloads are trending and will be the only option in the future. This is a safer more user friendly way of cutting out the Middle Man (GameStop, GameSpot, Walmart) than just restricting DRM via no borrowing, no trading in, no used game sells. In 5 years when all games can be digitially downloaded, then you cut out the middle man, and have complete control of the prices.

no???

I don't think anyone is. It's just gone....for now.

ETA: In regards to change, Microsoft went in dry. I think they will use this moment to lube up and try again later.

It makes that game purchase an even harder decision, knowing that you won't be able to trade it in and at least get some credit if you don't like it. I like being able to download games instantly, but I'll be honest, going to a strict digital format is a bit intimidating.

i had my doubts it was going to roll out with the Xbox One in November anyway.

the consumer still has to wrap their simple little minds around games being digital and how cutting out the middle man is the only way for prices to drop in the long run.

there are already digital download demos that time out after a few hours of gameplay. that ability is already there.

Play it for a while. Don't like it. Don't buy the full copy.

That is why I never buy a game until I see reviews
