The tug-of-war between Microsoft and Sony just got more interesting. Multiple sources inform me Microsoft will announce what amounts to a complete reversal on its DRM policies for Xbox One today.

What does this mean?

No more always online requirement
The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
Region locks have been dropped

Bye bye Steam model on console if true!

I was really coming around to buying an Xbox One but this tells me to stick with my PC and Steam and to go ahead and build my HTPC/Steam Box.

and with good reason. After all, we all know that used games are the reason new games cost so much...........

Yeah, although Microsoft went about it very poorly and didn't explain anything, it could've actually benefited gamers. Sticking with the current model pretty much ensures that all new releases will be $60+ dollars for a while.

I'd have to find the article again, but if you adjust the game prices from like 15 years ago or so for inflation, we're actually paying a bit less for games now.

I told myself if they did this I'd buy a XBone but man I'm pumped about Watchdogs and The Order.

If you want the game so bad that you have to buy your new copy when it immediately releases, then buy it for 60. Or just wait and buy the used copy and online code if need be.

I buy used everything just in case I want to bring it back within seven days.

Or if you just look and see that you can find games for $40 and $45 one month after release often. Sometimes the prices even drop faster.
