Here's an IGN link if Kotaku isn't good enough for you. It has been reported by pretty much every single major gaming outlet today
LINK

"Our sources have said the the console is significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and that Nintendo's intent is to recapture the hardcore market. Another source said it is capable of 1080p resolutions."

I've heard that it will feature a quad-core Marvell CPU, but of course this is just speculation.

all kidding aside I think you may be missing the underlying theme.
Nintendo could launch a nuke attack with its new console but if they keep marketing to prepubecent kids & Families it wont mean dick.

Shocking. 2012 console more powerful than something that was made in 2005.

I'm still waiting for a Monster Hunter game that isn't a port. ( for us 360 users)

As game informer pointed out, Japan's game developers are light years behind oh let's say Europe or NA.

I don't remember them ever owning the hardcore market. When it was top dog there was simply the "gaming" market.

Might as well stick to the casual market, because they won't beat Microsoft or Sony at their own games.

FRANK GORE IS THE MF'n MAN!!!!!!!
OT-
Nintendo better start stealing MS & SONY exec's brains then because they are way behind on what a AMERICAN hardcore gamer wants. They need an AWAKENING to do that.

They changed the layout and I hate the new one. Still visit it for most of my gaming news, but I would like my old layout back.

The lack of third party support on the Wii was Nintendo's awakening. If third party developers like Bioware, Rockstar, Activision, EA, Bungie, Square Enix, Capcom, Ubisoft etc etc get on board with this new console, which seems to be Nintendo's aim , then it could be a formidable console. Their first party franchises are already wildly successful

I almost feel as if Nintendo took a page out from Sony with the Wii and then Sony beat Nintendo with their own game.

PS1 was vastly more popular than the N64 despite being significantly less powerful (32 bit processing vs 64 bit).

The PS2 wasn't significantly less powerful than the Gamecube, but the Gamecube did have better lighting and shader effects. PS2 still did better than the Gamecube.

For the Wii Nintendo made a less powerful system, but with a hardware twist (PS1 was the first popular console to use discs) and Sony decided to make the powerful system. Sony almost ended up like Sega, but has since regained some lost footing.

All in all, Nintendo's plan worked (Wii's sold like fricking hotcakes and Nintendo is rolling in money), but they did alienate a lot of core fans and the "hardcore" market. I am glad that they are trying to garner that market back and hope that "more powerful than PS360" means significantly more powerful.

I agree wth this. It seems that those of us who grew up with the original Nintendo have matured and their company didn't. They'll have to make the shift to American standards because a huge chunk of their market doesn't even have a home anymore.

This article seems to indicate that it may not be MORE powerful than the 360/PS3. Maybe Nintendo feels if they can be on the same level graphically as the other two with the addition of their motion controls it could bring the third party publishers back on board.
Kinect makes the PSMove and Wii obsolete IMO. That is the future of motion capture technology.

It should be more powerful than 360/ps3. But MS and Sony are already working on next-gen as well, and I highly doubt the next Wii will compare to those.

like i said, nintendo gets 3rd party developers that make games for sony and microsoft and combine that with the creativity and absolute excellence of their first party titles, there is no stopping them.

Yep. I would imagine that the new Virtual Console store would be updated with the addition of Gamecube games.

A report from CVG states the new Nintendo console will use an all-new controller - not an updated Wii controller - with sources saying it will have a built-in screen. Additional sources informed IGN the screen has touch capability.

Controllers with touchscreen capability would be awesome.
