mechanical keyboard thoughts?

Was just looking at slickdeals and saw there is a Corsair K70 RGB LED Mechanical keyboard with cherry MX brown switches for $150 LINK
What are peoples thoughts on mechanical keyboards, switches etc? The RGB piece is what makes this so much more expensive, but the lighting effects are pretty badass.

Made the switch to mechanical not that long ago and love it.

I'm not sure if they have released patches to fix it, but there have been a lot of reported issues with the software that goes with that keyboard.
As far as mechanical keyboards in general, if key actuation precision plays a big role in the games you play, there's a noticeable difference. Playing rhythm games like Osu!, mechanical keyboards are almost a must. Mech keyboards last about 5x as long as rubber domes. They keystroke lifespan of a rubber dome is about 10 million keystrokes whereas mechanical keyboards generally have a lifespan of about 50 million.
In terms of what switches to get, it's strictly preference. One isn't better than the others. It all depends on how hard you press the keys, whether you want tactile feedback or a linear press, etc. I've used both blues and reds and they both have their pros and cons. Blues take a bit more force to actuate and have heavy tactile feedback, reds take significantly less force and are linear so there's no feedback. If I had to sit and type a 2000 word paper, I'd do it on the blues over the reds in a heartbeat. They are orgasmic to type on. Reds are generally considered the best for gaming because touch-typing is easier on them. Blacks are basically reds that take more force and browns are blues that takes less force without as much feedback. Greens are like blues that take more force.
Now for brands; Ducky, while a bit harder to find, is probably the most solid keyboard you can get. Much more simplistic in design, but you will never have any issues with the keyboard itself until you need to replace the switches in 6-9 years. Corsair is generally good, but that K70 they released has had software issues messing up the computer and causing problems with the backlighting not working properly. They have said that they will eventually make it to where you can code your own lighting sequences with it, but I don't know the release dates on that. DON'T get anything Razer that came out after 2014. They recently switched from MX Cherry switches to the Chinese knockoffs and called them their own switches. They don't last nearly as long and have reported actuation issues. That being said, I have the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 with Cherry MX blue switches and never had any problems. However, when I got my Ducky Shine 3, I could feel the difference in quality of build. When you bottom out on the Blackwidow, there's a lot more hollow space so it's quite a bit louder. The Ducky on the other had is a bit smaller and the build is more solid and echo from bottoming out is almost nonexistent.

Dont get an RGB from corsair, they're full of problems. I love my MX blues. I dont ever plan on owning something else
Edit: its tough to go wrong on mechs, though. One of my favorite boards I've owned is the $50 monoprice board. I'm using a rose will one right now that was probably $50-60, and I really like it. My favorite board was probably my poker II, but it was a 60%.
The cooler master quick fire rapid is another good option, but that's a TKL board.

I also have a Ducky Shine and it is just ridiculously solid. Hard to find them in the US now.

Is it the RGB version with the problems or Corsairs in general?

Basically the corsair RGB in general. Their other boards are great though.
Its mostly software problems with the RGB

Only place I've ever seen Ducky Shines were at the MicroCenter over by my house in Atlanta. That being said, I have the Logitech G710+ with MX Cherry Browns and I absolutely love it

The top review for that keyboard.
quote:
Absolutely Magnanimous! The keyboard itself, with it's gold lace, is a flawless match to my diamond encrusted computer case! I'm fortunate enough that the gem market is weak so I took it upon myself to lace the case with both diamonds and rubies! The CPU case and mouse both being gold plated and fully covered I found that many keyboards, even the best, were nothing but plastic! Folly I say! I blame the Chinese! But then some brilliant fellow (or fellows) decided it was most needed to craft the Sojourner Keyboard! By God the man deserves a medal! Or at the very least knighthood! Now I feel my workstation can fully be displayed alongside the crown jewels themselves! A Flawless combination of gold, rubies, diamonds, and a fare bit of tears of the poor (I wouldn't use simple tap-water for the liquid cooling now would I? And orphan tears as so easy to come by! They hardly even need to be caned now-a-days!).
By and by I feel this keyboard was a long time coming! And it types like a dream! I did denote a single star because it could use some emeralds though... or perhaps some flawless gems of another variety? Regardless, jolly good keyboard! Now If you don't mind I've paid a number of dwarfs and vagabonds to stand about outside dressed as chess pieces in the courtyard for a rip-roaring game with the Duke of Devonshire's son Lord Cavendish! Toodle-oo!

I like this one.

There are some people that would scoff at paying a $1000 for a keyboard. But to them I would ask, "Can you put a price on being totally and completely one with the universe?" The answer to that question is yes - and it costs $1000.

Have a Razer BlackWidow Ultimate and love it. Sure it is a bit loud, but it just feels awesome.

The keyboard does look very nice. In the one picture they do offer. The circle keycaps feel perfect on my fingers, and it worth every penny I made selling my computer. My wife and kids have left me, because I bought this keyboard, and my wife caught me getting freaky with it. She didn't know you could shove something that big up your rectum. Now the keyboard is covered in Taco Bell s***. She took the kids, and now I'm alone in my cardboard box with my lover. I smoke kush to pretend its an actual person.... My life is complete.
10/10 IGN.

too loud. No one in this thread is good enough to notice the difference in reaction time...some people might like the feel of the clicks, but are lying to themselves if they say the noise doesn't bother the shite out of them.

So inherently every mechanical keyboard clicks?
Posted on 4/28/15 at 8:00 am to IT_Dawg
Keyboard clicks are the most satisfying sound ever. Noises are only annoying to the people not making the noise.
