I think they were only allowed to play from the opening to the Undead Settlement area, but it's still a bit disappointing.

I'll have to actually play it to give an opinion on it. I'm probably just being a typical fanboy, but I have a few nit-picks with the footage I've gorged on for the last two hours. Teleporting soon after abruptly warping to Lothric from the hub and gaining covenant items without NPCs are the biggest gripes I have; the latter could change in retail.

I played and failed miserably at the previous two, so I'm in again. Can we start a preemptive support group?

When playing these games I feel like a diarrhetic poo-flinging monkey with flippers for hands.

Areas don't look as connected as previously thought, that's the biggest disappointment.

I hate that. That was one of my favorite parts of DS1 and one of DS2's weaknesses.

The lack of a continuous world hurts the flow of the game.

I disagree. Coming from DeS, I very much liked the central 'hub' where I could just choose which areas to do. I actually did not like the Bonfire system in DkS until after giving it some time. I think it will be fine in DS3.

Weapon upgrades (Reddit):

quote:

Dark Souls II style of using a special item to convert a weapon to a different damage type, after it is changed the weapon is still upgraded using regular titanite. A firegem was used to convert weapons to fire weapons. In that gameply video yesterday, when he looked at the different stats for different upgrades, converting his spear to a fire spear seemed go remove all scaling? This needs to be researched, not sure what this means Raw is back, removes all scaling and increases base damage There is a Prestine (?) upgrade path that increased the scaling but lowered base damage. I think this will work like the Quality path from DeS, evening out strength and dex scaling. There is a screenshot of an item called a Farron Ember, which when given to the blacksmith allows the player to access the upgrade paths Sharp, Harden, and Poison. I think Sharp and Harden will be like Sharp and Crushing from DeS, increasing Dex and Strength scaling respectively. Very interesting, seems like this game will have the variety of upgrade paths that DeS had, with the simplicity of upgrading that DaS II had. Description for regular Titanite Shard said it can upgrade weapons to +4 The Crystal Zilla in the first area drops a Titanite Scale, which upgraded "soul-born" weapons. I am assuming this means boss weapons, so Titanite Scales are the new Demon Titanite/ Petrified Dragon Bone There didn't seem to be a way to upgrade armor, but im not sure about this.

Loading screen item descriptions.

It's a bit disappointing that it's not completely interconnected like DkS or Bloodborne (minus all the nightmares), but, holy shite, those bosses look insane.

My biggest gripe with DSII is that the boss battles are a bit boring.

Love DKS1. 1000/1000 GS on it, NG+7 and all. DKS2 I lost interest. I hope 3 brings that interest back. 1 is the best game I have played.

I feel like too much is coming out about it. Keep it more in house for the surprise.

I'm fixing to go on media blackout. Everything will be out there when the game hits in Japan.

I've avoided this thread and all other spoilers for the most part. I want to watch Terra Mantis and Dave Control but have avoided them. I know the basics from the intro with the 4 bosses but that's really about it

Gonna be a tightrope walk for the next month

I wanna go in and get my asshold slapped just like I did the first time I played DS1

See I guess I'm different. I didn't play ds1 or 2 until awhile after their release (I did play the dlc for old King and sunken King on release though) and didn't play bloodborne until many months after release.

It actually felt extremely weird preordering a FROM game

ETA: I have also never been afraid to look into different weapon build etc. either. I am a "no pyromancy or cleric spells" player on my first playthrough as well, but I feel it evens out with me researching different weapons and builds
