May I make a suggestion. This thread is already 22-23 pages long. Many of us are going to start playing tonight and we need a dedicated play through thread. Maybe we should official a playthrough thread instead of this.

I'll follow the lead with whatever. I'm not playing DS3 anytime so so if this thread goes all DS3 then I'll duck out so you won't have to worry about DS2 talk If you make a DS3 thread, I'll stay here.

Exactly my point. Threads that branch off topic are hell for people who are reading them linearly for information. Someone who hasn't seen this thread will have to search through to find that pg. 26 is where people actually start playing and add in all sorts of other stuff. Same with season long threads.

I will let Zombie start the "playing now" thread:

Just got the email from BB... not even BB can get it right, I can pick up the game "tomorrow"

He was pretty early on in the game. The first time the eagle drops him off you can avoid him, but you'll have to fight him not long after.

You have to beat him to get to the Bastille if I remember correctly.

I plan on picking this (DS3) up tomorrow.

What resources have folks found for starting out, character selection etc. I was absolutely horrible at DS1 and better at DS2 -- but I'm still bad.

I just started the game last week, came from BB. No problems until I reached him. I just need to dodge him better and invest a bit more in to Vitality. One of his attacks one-shots me, I'm a n00b to souls, I am only at lvl 23, mostly DEX and STR leveled up to use the fire longsword.

Amazon bro. BB doesn't get anything right ever

I don't think you have to fight him ever. The official boss fight is optional. The other fights you can run from unless I remember wrong.

There was a trick with that guy that you could summon some help, use him as bait, then one-hit the Pursuer with the ballista.

I'm not sure I ever beat that guy alone.

ETA: Gardoki's right. Pursuers eagle will bring you to one point at the Bastille, but there is a back way.

Looks like this will be the 1st DS game I ever play, from the reputation the games have I'm glad I have an extra mouse.

Learn to parry him and make him your bitch. He's actually pretty easy. I think you can parry all his attacks except his curse attack (blade glows).

The pursuer can definitely be tough early on for beginners, but I think he's a great boss in that he teaches you how to recognize attack animations, and how to time your dodge rolls accordingly. I got tons of practice on him in the very early goings of the game by dropping my summon signs near the fog gate.

frick the ballistas. They're a great way to get you or your summons killed.

I'm not good a parrying just yet, I'm getting better. I can't find out when to hit the L2 on Pursuer to parry just yet.

I've died prob 10+ times on him, is it true that if I die too many times i get cursed and my max health gets cut in half for remainder of the game? I'm debating on facing him a bunch more times and learning to beat him if that's the case, and just coming back more leveled up.

With base agility, your dodges have to be really tight against him. Roll towards him, not away and from right to left or vice versa. Adaptability can be an extremely important stat for this reason.
