There is a ring you find pretty early in the game that stops the decrease at about 75%. You can use effigy, I have over 50 of them, but you can also join the sun bro covenant later in the game to co-op and regain your humanity.

I'm pissed. Usps didn't leave my dark souls package because they said it needed a signature. I hate the post office.

Yeah, really bad gameplay. I'm rusty with the vanilla game bosses; that's the excuse I'm using anyway..

My thought watching it was that it had been a while but it quickly came back to you

Is there a way to respec? At this point I don't see myself wanting to do the same build in NG+ but I might be interested in doing a pyro build or something.

Yep, soul vessels. You can get one in the basement of the mansion in majula.

Worth doing or should I just do a new game?

I was the opposite. Raped the main bosses in NG+, should've died to Maria and Orphan but won on first try each time
Only one that destroyed me was Laurence

Beat the remaining, optional boss today. I've put roughly 35 or so hours into the game, and trying to prepare to get the platinum (maybe). If I had to give a score -- 7.5/10.
Pros:
-Gameplay
-Art design
-Score
Cons:
-Inconsistent world design
-Too much fan service and pandering
-Camera OP
-Overly-convoluted NPC quest lines
-Wildly inconsistent damage to your character
World design is good; there are dense, sprawling areas like Cathedral of the Deep and there are confusingly short areas like Profaned Capital. There are a couple of zones in the game that are straight up made from Bloodborne Chalice Dungeon code. From has always re-used assets, but it's too obvious here and it's lazy. Too many empty rooms, dead ends and hallways with nothing there.
It's just my personal opinion about the damage. Maybe I just suck, but I've done NG+7 runs of both games, and except for maybe a heavy attack, I've not had as much damage dealt to me by enemies and bosses as they dish out here. It just adds insult to injury when a boss has two health bars and you battle the camera to get to the second phase only to be two-shot. A boss will consistently spam magic attacks, capable of doing massive damage, and while you try to roll out of the way, can hit you with another magic attack that can one-shot you.
I love to learn boss patterns, to try and basically get them to do what I want, but some of the bosses in 3 never tire. There are constant attacks and a misstep can cause death or at least half of your HP bar. I walked away from some of the boss fights not caring whether I ever did them again or not. Then there's the flip-side, some bosses are absolutely trivialized by gimmicks. Yhorm looks amazing but can be chain-stunned by the Stormruler sword, ala Demon's Souls.. and it's just over. There's a few bosses where there's common ground and feel like old fashioned Souls fights, but they're not common enough for me. I beat the game, but it's the first time I've completed a Souls game and still felt defeated. Maybe I'm just getting old.

i have noticed all these things and im only in smoldering lake. just found out about the Lord ending and that is an unbelievably convoluted set of requirements to reach it.. pissed me off that i did one thing too early and it fricked the whole thing up.

For a souls games this is quite the insult

It's left me a bit depressed, honestly.

I heard it described as a best of collection for better or worse.

In terms of fan service, it definitely is.

Think it needed more time?

i dont mind fan service, but they shouldn't have been so heavy handed. i do love the feeling of nostalgia in games though (the return to shadow moses mission in MGS4, for example)

I don't mind some of the references, but Anor Londo just showing up in the Boreal Valley is just a bit much. I know it probably has some lore reason because of Aldrich, but it just feels hamfisted. And they cram it with a bunch of annoying fricking enemies. I think they played it a little too safe.

I think the Giantbomb guys got it right when they say it's like the greatest hits of the Souls series.

That's where I got it from
