Problem with that is I'm in a coalition with the French vs the Zulu.
Ahh. Yeah, that is an unfortunate situation.

May just try for a cultural victory with Egypt. I can start pumping out wonders quickly
Yeah, just make sure they're wonders you can use.

No way bro, wonder spam for the win! I remember this one game start had me as Egypt next to a marble deposit and a bunch of hills. So of course I went with the first culture tree to add on a bonus for working on wonders and added a religious buff too. That city was so unhappy cause I built nothing but wonders for the longest time.

I like going for the space race, but when I get to the end I build the ship parts but I can never assemble them, I must be doing something wrong but can't figure it out.

Gotta be in capital with no other units on that tile I believe. Then click the "send to orbit" or "assemble" or whatever it is button.

Yep, direct those pieces to your capital and an "assemble" option will appear

You are going to have issues with unhappiness all game unless you prioritize building around multiple luxuries. Buildings that supply happiness are also critical if you are going to be going to war a lot. Notre Dame is a huge milestone. I personally find it easiest to win via science. Also keep an eye out for what your cities are demanding and trade for them asap. Ignoring your cities' demands is a good way to have a very unhappy civ.

Usually I choose the Germans and play the peaceful isolationist country until I reach modern military technology and build my military up to extreme numbers. Then I go on a rampage starting in the 1800's. The Mongolians and Aztecs are the only ones who give me any kind of trouble militarily. The Mongolians have beaten me several times and taken some cities.

America is fun as well if you like to war. B17s and musket men are solid and manifest destiny is great for expanding cheaply AND pissing off the AI.
Just described what I do every time. Half off tiles is awesome

Thanks to everyone's input and protips, I've got a legit chance to win my Hard mode game.
-happiness is high across 5 cities and 4 puppets
-Navy is stacked. 1 great admiral, many upgraded frigates and just made a fleet of ironclads-
-standing army is strong enough to prevent any land based sneak attacks
-within 100 points of #1 in about 1930
-stole Electricity
-researching flight
Thinking if I take a few more coastal cities from shitty England with my navy I'll jump into the lead. My frigates 2 shot their special ships too much fun

My favorite is get a battleship with enough experience to add +1 range. Those things are destroyers of worlds with that

I'm horrible about neglecting my navy but when I do build that's exactly what I shoot for.
Stealth Bombers with Siege I & II and Air Repair...unstoppable.

Greece is the bomb unless you're playing a douche with Austria. Controlling the continental congress and trolling the computer is lots of fun

Well, this thread makes me want to play Civ again.

I'm surprised we've never tried a big TD game

Truth.
I hate Austria.

God that would be a disaster. Even with simultaneous turns, if one player lollygags then it will take foreverrrrrrrrrrr

amen to this.
Playing one currently where Cathy of Russia is in the lead for every victory condition. Also has a 1 delegate lead so she hosted 3 WC in a row. Decided enough was enough. With the help of my only ally who embraced the same ideology as me, freedom, I sent the demise of Cathy in motion. Instead of hopelessly voting for myself and losing again I swung all my votes to my best friend, Gandhi. He wins election and together we enact a standing army tax and prohibit the use her main lux resource. Meanwhile, im feeding Gandhi my uranium and denouncing cathy in hopes gandhi will make it nuclear rain on her, setting her shuttle building back to 0.

My buddy educated me on a game style that we are gonna try. Its called Succession. You play with as many people you want. Everyone agrees on a set amount of turns, say 15. First person takes their 15 turns and saves. He sends the saved file along with a history of what happened in those 15 turns to the next person. 2nd person takes his 15 and passes to next person with history. Rinse repeat with 3rd, 4th, etc...
That civfanatics website plays this alot. Fun to read about the history of their games
