Has there been a game where you were so caught up in story revelation, that you just could not walk away from it?

If so, what game do you feel has overall had the best writing, and delivery of a story that you have played?

Mass Effect, minus the last 10 minutes.

I've never had a PS3 or 4, but Last of Us looks like a hell of a story to.

Kind of out there, but Suikoden II really got to me when I was younger. I was about the age of the characters that just went to war and have to kill each other and 9/11 just happened in real life.

Mass Effect 1-3. Yes, even 3. Mordin elevated 3 enough to offset the ending.

I wish The Last of Us was on PC. Heard that has a great story.

Have never played that series. Was thinking about buying them for download on the Xbox. Heard some good things about the games.

I played all three for the first time in 2015. The first one has some inventory issues and pain in the arse mako missions but it is still worth a playthrough for the story.

Loved the games so much I played 1-3 then immediately did a replay of 1-3.

Last of Us.

Give me sometime and I could think of more but Last of Us is easily the most invested I have been.

I hate story. I skip as much cinema scenes as possible.

The only story I got into was Mass Effect.

Metal Gear Solid was a big one for me, after the Sniper Wolf scene I was legit hooked.

Loved letting the credits roll and hearing revolver ocelot thank the barely audible voice he was on the phone with, and end with "Mr president"

I think the writers of KOTOR nailed Star Wars better than the prequels. I loved the world-building and lore that was put into the Old Republic era as well. It is a shame that Disney retconned it out of existence.

The Mass Effect franchise as a whole is probably the best experience I've ever had in a video game. The attachment you feel towards each of the characters is unrivaled in any other game I've played thus far. I wouldn't say that any one game in the franchise had the "best story" though. ME3 was packed with emotional moments but only because I had played the first two games in the series. I don't imagine I would care as much if 3 was the first game I had played.

Bioshock Infinite has one of the best endings I've seen in a game and is a pretty smart story in a sense that you kind of want to play it over again to see all the little things you missed as a result of the revelation at the end of the game. On the whole though, I wouldn't say it had the best story overall.

Outside of that, I would say Assassin's Creed II might be one of the best stories in a video game. Its quality is right up there with a critically acclaimed movie or TV series. The amount of time that passes throughout the game and how you can see how the protagonist and the world around him changes over time is impressive. I also have admiration for Black Flag in this respect although I don't think the story is quite as good.

Uncharted 4 is pretty high up on the list as well. It's similar to The Last of Us from a storytelling perspective only with a much more satisfying ending.

Great call. Such a failed opportunity of the current generation to reboot this.

TLOU is the best game/movie/anything I've ever experienced.

I think Last of Us was more of having great characters and character development than an overall story. I think the most underrated story is Infamous and overall best writing probably Witcher 3.

I'm going to repeat KOTOR I and the Mass Effect series, even 3. There was plenty of awesome moments in ME3 even though the ending was a crapshoot.

ME2 is free on Origin right now and I encourage everyone to download and play it. You may even want to pay a little extra for ME Genesis so you can make the important decisions from the first game to personalize it a bit more, but this isn't necessary. Play this game now.

I definitely disagree. The end of TLOU is fantastic. Really nothing of consequence happens at the end of uncharted.
